Marvel Studios has removed a planned 2027 movie from its release schedule, leaving fans wondering what happened to the mysterious project.

The untitled film was originally set to hit theaters on July 23, 2027, but Disney has confirmed it is no longer on the calendar.

The news came as part of a recent announcement covered by Variety, which revealed that The Simpsons Movie 2 will take the July 23, 2027, spot instead. Disney did not say whether the Marvel film will be rescheduled or if it has been cancelled entirely.

Until this change, Marvel had been quietly working on several projects for 2027. We speculated that the secret film could have been a sequel to Shang-Chi, Black Panther 3, or Doctor Strange 3, with the latter seen as the most likely option.

With this cancellation, the next Marvel releases are now set as Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026, Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. Marvel also has four release dates planned in 2028, but it is not clear if the cancelled 2027 project will be moved to one of those dates.

In a statement to Variety, Disney highlighted the upcoming The Simpsons Movie sequel, a project nearly 20 years in the making, saying it will now occupy the summer 2027 slot.

It’s unclear why Marvel removed the untitled film from the schedule, but fans will have to wait to see if it resurfaces in 2028 or is abandoned completely.

While it’s disappointing not to have a surprise Marvel film in mid-2027, the studio still has major releases lined up, and this might give them more time to focus on quality over quantity. What do you think about Disney cancelling this 2027 Marvel movie? Share your thoughts in the comments.
