Disney Studios Becomes First and Only Studio to Hit This Milestone in 2025
Disney Studios has officially crossed $6 billion in worldwide box office revenue in 2025, making it the first and only studio to reach this milestone this year. The total includes $2.3 billion from domestic ticket sales, the highest for any major studio in the U.S. so far, and $3.65 billion from international markets.
The milestone came a bit earlier than expected, thanks in large part to James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, which has already earned more than $450 million globally. Warner Bros is the next closest major studio, with $4.3 billion in worldwide box office revenue this year, according to Deadline.
This marks the fifth time Disney has crossed the $6 billion threshold, previously achieving it in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. The studio reached this record in 2025 through 16 wide releases, including two billion-dollar-plus hits: Zootopia 2, which has earned $1.3 billion, and Lilo & Stitch, which has made over $1.038 billion.
Marvel Studios also contributed significantly with three releases, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Thunderbolts, and Captain America: Brave New World, that combined for more than $1.3 billion globally. Other notable hits included Predator: Badlands, which became the highest-grossing film in the franchise with nearly $184 million, and Freakier Friday, which made $153.1 million. While films like Tron: Ares ($142.2 million) and Pixar’s Elio ($154.2 million) underperformed, they still added to Disney’s total revenue.
Avatar: Fire and Ash continues to dominate, earning $50.8 million worldwide in a single day, with $16.5 million from North America. Its cumulative earnings now stand at $119 million domestic and $331.1 million internationally, with China leading overseas revenue at $67 million.
The film has recorded the second-largest global opening for a Disney title this year, following Zootopia 2 ($560.3 million), and is also the second-biggest worldwide opening for a Cameron-directed Avatar sequel after 2022’s Avatar: Way of Water.
Disney’s success in 2025 highlights the continuing strength of theatrical releases, as the studio not only achieved high grosses from blockbuster franchises but also set a benchmark for the industry.
