Disney’s ‘Hexed’ Just Gave Fans Their Best Look Yet at Its Wildly Original Witch World
Disney Animation has spent the past year quietly building anticipation for its next original story, one that trades princesses and kingdoms for suburbia and a hidden realm of witches. After a string of sequels and franchise films, the studio’s upcoming project has stood out precisely because it isn’t based on anything that came before it.
That anticipation has only grown since Disney began rolling out cast reveals and footage over the summer, culminating in a D23 presentation that gave fans their fullest picture yet of the film’s tone, characters, and world. Now, a fresh image is offering another glimpse at two of its central figures together for the first time.
The picture shows Billie Doe, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, standing alongside Beef Roger Crummchuk, voiced by Walton Goggins, inside a cluttered, candlelit room that looks straight out of a witch’s hideaway. The image confirms ‘Hexed’ is heading to theaters on November 25.
‘Hexed’ follows Billie, described as an impulsive and unconventional teenage girl who discovers secret magical abilities that pull her out of suburbia and into Hexe, a sprawling realm of witches. Once there, she’s forced to team up with her cautious mother, Alice, voiced by Rashida Jones, and together the two uncover family mysteries that could change the world of witches forever.
Goggins’ character, Beef Roger Crummchuk, is one of the film’s stranger creations: a three-eyed green cat who lives in Hexe and can reportedly remove his own head and spin it around. He joins a supporting cast of enchanted objects, including Tracey Ullman as Ms. Quill, a talking feather quill pen, and Stephen Fry as Elias Quire, a magical journal that seems to serve as a guide for Billie’s journey.
Rounding out the cast is Jodie Foster, marking her first-ever role in a Disney animated film as Queen Celeste, the villainous ruler of the witches who appears to be hunting Billie for her powers. Foster and Goggins were both announced during Disney’s D23 Entertainment Showcase in Anaheim, where Steinfeld herself introduced the pair on stage.
‘Hexed’ will stand as Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 65th animated feature, directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, with Josie Trinidad serving as co-director. The project was first unveiled at Destination D23 back in August 2025, before Disney revealed the lead cast and an updated premise at CinemaCon this past April.
The film arrives on the heels of ‘Zootopia 2,’ which turned into a massive box office success for Disney Animation, and expectations are already building for whether ‘Hexed’ can carry that momentum into an entirely original story. Between its offbeat character designs, a cast stacked with Oscar winners and comedy veterans, and a premise that blends coming-of-age drama with fantasy adventure, the film has quickly become one of the studio’s more intriguing upcoming releases.
With just under three months to go before its release, Disney appears to be steadily ramping up its marketing push, and this latest image suggests there’s plenty more to reveal before November. Fans eager for a proper trailer likely won’t have to wait much longer given how much has already been shown at recent events.
