Disney+'s Ms. Marvel: What Are The First Reviews Saying?

The upcoming Disney+ series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — Ms. Marvel — is only two weeks away, and like always, we can always get some first thoughts and reviews about the series ahead of the premiere. So far, the first reviews that surfaced on Twitter have been positive, with many praising the lead actress Iman Vellani, who had no acting experience before this show.

Iman Vellani is playing Kamala Khan, a teenager and a fan of superheroes, particularly Captain Marvel, who will get a chance to become what every superhero fan is dreaming of — becoming a superhero herself. Vellani will debut as the character in the series, and she’s already set to reprise the role in the upcoming movie The Marvels, in which she’ll join forces with Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau. The Marvels will hit theaters in July 2023.

“An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega fan with an oversized imagination-particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home-that is, until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with superpowers, right?” — Ms. Marvel, official synopsis

“I’ve never loved a character like I do Kamala Khan. She’s charismatic, smart, funny & adorable. Her family is so lovable. The dynamic is amazing. The animation & graphics are so fun. Into The Spiderverse vibes. Kamala Khan is going to be HUGE. I freaking love #MsMarvel so much.”@lsirikul

“Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan might be one of the best casting choices the MCU has made (seriously). She truly embodies all of Kamala’s enthusiasm and optimism. I’m so looking forward to her interactions with other heroes and her future in the MCU!”@curious_maryam

“I was given the opportunity to watch the first two episodes of #MsMarvel and… WOW! The world we’re thrown into is extremely exhilarating and SO COLORFUL. I can’t stress enough how fantastic Iman Vellani is as Kamala Khan and might I say…. I think I like her new powers more.”@OpticalCinema

“MsMarvel is a vibrant and exciting story that takes a plunge into both the MCU and Pakistani culture. Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan is absolutely fantastic, as shes likely to become an MCU favorite. Not to mention her new powers are a phenomenal addition.”@ComicBookSaga

“The first couple episodes of #MsMarvel are a BLAST. I particularly love how pretty much everyone is instantly endearing. I almost immediately loved the characters and their family dynamics. Iman Vellani is incredibly charming.”@JordanMaison

“MsMarvel is really, really wonderful. Iman Vellani is a star and the stylized aesthetic, which feels almost like a live-action “Spider-Verse,” is dazzling but never distracting. All the emotional stuff is front and center, real and honest. Get excited.”@DrewTailored

“First 2 episodes of #MsMarvel leave no doubt about the type of show this is. It’s a show for those of us who grew up watching the #MCU and fantasized about having powers of our own. It’s a coming of age story that works as a love letter to the genre.”@CinemaStubs

“#MsMarvel is EVERYTHING I wanted. Iman is PERFECT as Kamala. After two episodes, I can’t wait to see what happens next. For those worried about the power changes, it works & still captures the heart of who she is as a person & a hero. Also, can we have a REAL Avengers Con?”@ThatAshleyErin

Created by Bisha K. Ali, Ms. Marvel will premiere on June 8, exclusively on Disney+.
