Do Einar and Arnheid End Up Together in Vinland Saga?

During the Slave or Farmland arc of Vinland Saga, one of the things that we noticed was how star-struck Einar was by Arnheid’s beauty. We saw this in episode 2 when he tried to tell Ketil that the other workers were picking on him as he was silenced the moment he saw Arnheid. Of course, his reaction was similar in episode 3 when he saw the young woman once more. So, do Einar and Arnheid end up together in Vinland Saga?

Einar and Arnheid do not end up together, but they do become good friends. In fact, Arnheid is not only Ketil’s personal maid but is also his concubine. However, another fact is that Arnheid is actually married but was separated from his husband, who also became a slave on a different farm.

The fact that Arnheid is beautiful is one of the reasons why Einar admires her. However, because of the circumstances surrounding her life, she and Einar cannot enter into a romantic relationship. Nevertheless, they become good friends in the Vinland Saga storyline. In fact, Arnheid is one of the inspirations of both Thorfinn and Einar in their quest to establish a settlement in Vinland.

Do Einar And Arnheid End Up Together In Vinland Saga?

At this point of the Vinland Saga storyline, we all know that both Thorfinn and Einar ended up working as slaves on Ketil’s farm. The good thing is that, while they may be slaves, they are given a certain level of freedom as they aren’t abused by Ketil. Of course, the other workers on the farm aren’t as nice to them as Ketil may be, but Thorfinn and Einar are actually able to have a chance to work on their freedom.

It was during a scene involving some of the workers that got Einar upset as these workers ate the food that was supposed to be for him and Thorfinn. Einar wanted to report this to Ketil when he was in the area, but he was too awestruck to actually say anything when he saw a young woman with blonde hair. She was so beautiful that Einar lost his words the moment he saw her, as it was clear that he admired the woman.

In episode 3, Einar met the very same woman early in the morning when he saw her washing her face in the nearby well. That was when he was too surprised to talk to her properly, especially because he actually thought that she was Ketil’s daughter. But the woman introduced herself as Arnheid and said that she actually worked as Ketil’s personal maid. The conversation was cut short by the arrival of Fox.

But while Einar knows that Arnheid is also a fellow slave working on the farm, that doesn’t take away the fact that he admired her beauty and was too star-struck to actually talk to her properly. So, do Einar and Arnheid end up together?

Unfortunately for Einar, he does not end up with Arnheid in Vinland Saga. That’s because there are too many complications surrounding Arnheid’s life. The fact is that while she may be Ketil’s personal maid, she is also his favorite slave and is actually one of his concubines. Of course, before Arnheid was sold to slavery, she was already married.

As such, Arnheid has a very complicated life as she is involved with two men. First, she was already married before she even became a slave. And second, Ketil keeps her around as his concubine on top of the fact that she is his favorite personal maid.

While it might be true that Einar and Arnheid do not end up together, the thing is that they end up becoming good friends due to the fact that they all work on the same farm together and have a lot of shared experiences. 

What Happens To Einar And Arnheid?

Although Einar and Arnheid do not end up together, they both end up becoming very important parts of each other’s lives. Arnheid ends up forming a good friendship with both Thorfinn and Einar after working on the farm together for years. Nevertheless, Arnheid’s life on Ketil’s farm was one of the things that defined the future of both Thorfinn and Einar.

After years of working on Ketil’s farm, Arnheid reunited with her husband, Gardar. The truth was that she was already married and that she had a son that was killed right before she was sold into slavery due to the fact that women without children fetched better prices in the slave market. However, while Gardar was also sold into slavery, he escaped from a nearby farm so that he could reunite with Arnheid and escape with her.

Thorfinn and Einar learned of this plan, and that was when they tried to help the couple out. They wanted them to escape Ketil’s farm so that they could have a life together again. However, Snake learned of this and tried to prevent Thorfinn and Einar from helping Arnheid and her husband out.

While Thorfinn tried to fight Snake, the mercenary successfully dealt a mortal wound to Gardar, who died shortly after he was stabbed. Meanwhile, Arnheid was captured by Ketil’s men while Ketil was away.

Ketil, who was usually a respectable man, was not in his best mood when he returned from a disgraceful meeting with King Canute. When he learned that Arnheid tried to escape with her husband, that was when he snapped. He beat Arnheid with a stick despite the fact that she was telling him that she was pregnant with their child.

Nevertheless, Ketil didn’t stop beating Arnheid, who suffered grave injuries and wounds as a result of the beating. Ketil wasn’t there when Arnheid succumbed to her injuries, as this was what forced him to retire as a farmer.

Meanwhile, Einar used Arnheid’s death as motivation for him to escape the farm and live a life as a free man. Fueled by Arnheid’s death, both Thorfinn and Einar vowed to search for Vinland so that they could establish a settlement that was free of slavery and violence. In that regard, while Einar and Arnheid never ended up together, it was Einar’s admiration for her that pushed him forward to try to live a better life for her and all of the other slaves that never had a chance to have better lives.
