Marvel’s marketing machine for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has spent months turning Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom into a global presence. From throne replicas to life-size statues, the villain has been popping up in theater lobbies and expo halls all over the world ahead of the film’s December release.

The rollout has been relentless. Marvel showcased a giant replica of Doom’s throne at an expo in Shanghai and later brought a version to the Philippines, while an AMC theater standee in the United States placed Doom on his throne alongside the tagline “12.18.26 is Doomsday.”

Now it’s Japan’s turn. New photos and video shared online show a statue of Doctor Doom from ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ on display in a Japanese cinema, standing behind stanchion ropes next to a poster for the film.

The display appears to be part of a special decoration event at 109 Cinemas Osaka Expo City, themed around the eve of ‘Doomsday’, where a Doom statue made its debut in the theater’s lobby. The cinema said the statue is open for anyone to view, adding a playful warning asking visitors not to touch it so as not to anger him.

The imposing figure stands with his arms crossed, wearing his hooded green cloak, silver mask, and armored gauntlets. A chain stretches between 2 round shoulder medallions, and a heavy belt anchors the ornate, square-patterned tunic.

The display also carries good news for Japanese fans. The cinema confirmed that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in Japan on Thursday, December 18, the same day as its U.S. release.

That simultaneous launch was announced well in advance. Marvel locked in the Japanese date despite ‘Dune: Part Three’ opening on the same day, signaling it had no plans to budge.

Japan is far from the only country getting a close-up look at the villain. A giant Doctor Doom statue was recently unveiled in Shanghai, drawing attention for its sheer size. In Argentina, a theater is showcasing Doom with his arms crossed inside a lit glass case topped with the ‘Doomsday’ logo. The case glows green, and a sign at the base notes that the film opens there on December 16.

Another life-size statue made headlines for showing Doom without his hood for the first time in the film’s marketing. Its cape features shoulder clasps that pay tribute to other major Marvel heroes across the multiverse, though the hood-free look doesn’t confirm how he’ll appear on screen.

Fans who want a Doom of their own have options too. Iron Studios and Sideshow have unveiled a quarter-scale Doctor Doom statue standing roughly 68 centimeters tall, featuring interchangeable arms and light-up details.

Hot Toys has also revealed a detailed figure and costume display. Together with theater popcorn buckets and cups, it’s clear Marvel is betting big on Downey’s villain as the face of the film.

The excitement around Doom has been building since Downey’s casting was revealed. When Marvel announced 27 cast members during a 5 and a half hour livestream, the event racked up 275 million digital views, becoming the largest announcement in MCU history.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, ‘Doomsday’ brings together the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers and X-Men to face Downey’s Doom. With statues appearing in Osaka, Shanghai and beyond, the villain seems determined to greet fans in person before he ever arrives on screen.

Would you visit a cinema just to see a life-size Doctor Doom statue before Avengers: Doomsday arrives?
