Doctor Doom Is Coming for Your Snacks as the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Popcorn Bucket Gets a First Look

Collectible concessions have become a blockbuster ritual of their own, and anticipation for an ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ popcorn bucket has been simmering for months. Back in December, fans were already passing around a Doctor Doom bucket concept created by artist Bosslogic, which pulled in hundreds of thousands of views on X. Social media has since been flooded with fan-made designs, from mask busts to gauntlets and goblets.

The timing couldn’t be better for Marvel’s marketing machine. Marvel has spent the past week teasing Doom’s presence at the movies, including an ‘Endgame Encore‘ poster released on September 25 that shows the villain sitting in a theater seat, holding a red nano gauntlet full of popcorn under the words “Doom Shall Attend.” Robert Downey Jr. shared the artwork too, and fans loved the idea of Doom bringing his own snacks, with one X user calling it the most Doctor Doom sentence possible.

The design goes far beyond a simple mask. The bucket depicts Doom from the hood down to the belt, featuring the silver mask with glowing green eyes, a green tunic with a square pattern, a chain connecting 2 shoulder medallions, and a flowing cape behind him. In the image, the olive-green hood frames the metallic faceplate, giving the piece a hefty, throne-room presence.

Not everyone was sold on the full-torso approach, though. One fan replying to the post asked why the bucket includes Doom’s body instead of just the head with the mask and hood. As with most early concession leaks, key details remain a mystery. The original post doesn’t reveal which theater chain will carry the bucket or when it will go on sale.

The same account also noted it had spoken with the company behind the viral ‘Resident Evil’ bag, which may produce more due to popular demand. That comment speaks to just how hungry audiences currently are for novelty movie merchandise.

The bucket is ultimately a spotlight for one of the most audacious casting swings in Marvel history. Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU, not as Tony Stark but as Victor Von Doom, was the biggest headline out of San Diego Comic-Con 2024. The villain himself has a long legacy, having debuted in the fifth issue of the ‘Fantastic Four’ comic series in 1962.

The film brings back Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors behind ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’. The story sees the Avengers, Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers and the X-Men team up to face Doom.

The ensemble is stacked. Returning heroes include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes. The X-Men side brings Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, James Marsden, Channing Tatum and Rebecca Romijn into the fold.

Official synopses tease that heroes from 3 distinct universes will collide and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve encountered, as the Multiverse Saga begins its final chapter. The film is listed with a runtime of 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Marvel is already using the big screen to build momentum. ‘Endgame Encore’ is currently playing with new scenes that set up the next Avengers chapter, and Regal has put an Avengers Nano Gauntlet popcorn container on sale alongside tickets. That makes the Doom bucket feel like the natural next step in a carefully orchestrated rollout.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens exclusively in theaters on December 18, and if this first look is any indication, Doom will be claiming his throne at the concession stand long before he takes over the screen.
