Recent Reports Reveal Doctor Doom’s and Reed Richards’ MCU Dynamic Will Stray Far from the Comics
Reed Richards and Doctor Doom are among the most iconic rivals in Marvel Comics. Both are genius-level intellects and fierce competitors, but their rivalry is defined by their contrasting ideologies. Reed advocates for using science to improve humanity, while Doom is more power-driven, seeking control and dominance.
Although there have been moments when they collaborated, they typically find themselves on opposing sides. Doctor Doom’s obsession with defeating Reed goes beyond rivalry; it is profoundly personal.
With the introduction of Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) and Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) in the MCU, fans were eager to see their dynamic play out on screen. However, according to industry insider Alex Perez, that may not happen as expected.
During his October AMA, Perez addressed a fan’s question about whether the relationship between Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom in the MCU’s Secret Wars will be as impactful as it was in the 2015 Secret Wars comic.
He noted that it will be difficult, as Doom and Reed don’t interact significantly in the upcoming Fantastic Four film.
Perez suggested their dynamic might mirror that of Thanos and Tony Stark in Infinity War, where Tony is aware of an impending threat but doesn’t know its nature until later, while Doom has a better understanding of Reed.
This perspective aligns with Doom’s long-standing obsession with Reed, which has always been more intense than Reed’s interest in him. Additionally, since Doom will be introduced “rather late” in the Multiverse Saga, there may not be enough time to establish a robust relationship between the two characters.
