Doctor Doom’s NYCC Lab Hides a Symbiote Tease for ‘Doomsday’
Marvel went all-in on Latveria at New York Comic Con this year. The convention ran from October 8 to 11, and the show floor was packed with Doctor Doom-themed attractions. Doom’s costume from the film sat on display at the Marvel booth in the Javits Center, while Heroes & Villains built a Latverian marketplace booth inspired by his homeland, complete with apparel and accessories.
All of it points to how central the villain has become to Marvel’s push for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. The film arrives in theaters on December 18, with Robert Downey Jr. playing Doom and the Russo brothers back in the director’s chair. It also leads directly into ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, set for December 17, 2027.
Among all the Doom-themed attractions, one display has fans buzzing the most: a recreation of Doctor Doom’s lab that showcased a Symbiote item. MCU – The Direct described it as a Symbiote weapon, though other outlets call it a sample of the Venom symbiote, and the post has sparked speculation about its inclusion in the film.
The Symbiote wasn’t the only piece on the shelves. Reports describe a collection of artifacts pulled from across the multiverse, including Cyclops’ visor and a broken piece of the Silver Surfer’s board. Other items reportedly on display included Ultron’s head, Thanos’ cracked helmet, and the Ultimate Nullifier.
The result looks like a trophy room for a villain who collects powerful items instead of building an army. Fans combing through footage and photos from the display have been treating every object as a possible clue to what Doom has been up to before the film begins.
The Symbiote has drawn the most attention. Some fans link it to the symbiote sample left behind in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, which would suggest Doom has been gathering pieces from the Spider-Man side of the MCU. One popular theory holds that he could use it on Spider-Man later in the story.
There’s also debate over which film it sets up. ComicBook.com suggested Venom could matter more in ‘Secret Wars’ than in ‘Doomsday’, which already has plenty to establish. Scooper Daniel Richtman reportedly said no when asked whether Topher Grace’s Venom appears in ‘Doomsday’, so a full Venom debut in December may not be on the cards.
Before fans get too carried away, there’s a major caveat. ScreenCrush reports that the display wasn’t directly tied to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and was designed to hype a Doom-related Marvel event in ‘Fortnite’. Spanish outlet Vandal made the same point, noting that the lab on the NYCC show floor is the one seen in the game.

Marvel hasn’t confirmed that any of the items will appear in the film. That means the Symbiote could be a real Easter egg, a hint at future plans or simply part of a promotional setup built for a different medium. Even so, the choice of objects fits the character, which is why the theories keep spreading.
For now, the display is a reminder of how much Marvel is leaning on Doom to carry the build-up to its biggest crossover in years. Whether the Symbiote ends up on screen in December or waits for ‘Secret Wars’, the lab has already done its job by getting people talking.
Do you think the Symbiote display at NYCC hints at Marvel’s plans for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?
