Doctor Doom’s Ticket Sales Are Already Making Marvel History Before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Even Hits Theaters

Marvel fans have spent the better part of two years bracing for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ and the wait has only sharpened the appetite for what the Russo Brothers are cooking up. With Robert Downey Jr. stepping into the MCU again, this time not as Tony Stark but as Victor von Doom, anticipation has been building steadily since the actor’s now legendary surprise reveal.

That anticipation collided with an unusual box office experiment this month. Disney opened full advance ticket sales for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ a full four months ahead of its December 18 premiere, a far earlier window than studios typically use for tentpole releases.

The numbers coming out of that early window are what has fans buzzing. According to fan account Cosmic Marvel on X, presales for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ are already running approximately 65 percent ahead of the first two day presales for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ citing a report from TheWrap. TheWrap’s own reporting confirms that after just two days of presales, sources say ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is approximately 65 percent ahead of the pace set by the first two days of presales for ‘Brand New Day’.

That comparison carries real weight given what ‘Brand New Day’ has already accomplished. The Spidey sequel opened to $360 million domestically, setting the record for the biggest opening weekend of 2026 and the biggest opening weekend of all time, surpassing ‘Avengers: Endgame’. It has since crossed $2 billion worldwide, becoming the eighth film ever to hit that milestone and the second fastest to do it.

There are caveats worth noting before anyone crowns a new record holder. ‘Brand New Day’ tickets went on sale just 45 days before release, while ‘Doomsday’ tickets went on sale 126 days in advance, making a direct comparison inexact. Analysts have echoed that timing gap as a reason to treat the presale surge as promising rather than conclusive.

Adding to the intrigue is the film’s shared release weekend with ‘Dune Part Three.’ The two films will open on the same day, competing for overlapping audiences, and industry watchers are already calling the date ‘Dunesday’. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ reunites the Russo Brothers as directors, with Downey Jr. leading a sprawling ensemble as Doctor Doom alongside returning Avengers, Fantastic Four members, and mutants from across the multiverse.

Whether the early presale pace holds up through December remains to be seen, but the numbers have already given Marvel fans plenty to celebrate months before the movie arrives. With ‘Brand New Day’ setting such a high bar and ‘Doomsday’ already chasing it this hard before a single trailer’s final marketing push, do you think Doctor Doom can actually out open Spider-Man this winter?
