Doctor Exposes Celebrity Who Asked About Drinking Their Own Urine
Dr. Mikhail Varshavski has revealed that Kristen Bell once approached him with a highly unusual health query: whether she should begin drinking her own urine. During a recent appearance on The Basement Yard podcast, the popular medical personality, known to millions as Doctor Mike, shared that the Veronica Mars star messaged him about the practice after hearing a friend praise its supposed benefits.
Varshavski assured the podcast hosts that he was not violating any privacy regulations by sharing the story, as the exchange was not part of a formal medical consultation. Looking directly into the camera, the family medicine physician expressed his lingering disbelief, jokingly addressing the actress by saying that he can’t believe you really considered drinking urine.
The doctor explained that he had to respectfully steer Bell away from the idea, only to discover that the entire situation was a complex prank. It turns out that one of Bell’s castmates had been tricking her into believing the practice was legitimate by creating various beverages that merely looked like urine to see if she would buy into the trend.
The podcast trio joked that the prankster must have been incredibly convincing for Bell to seek a second opinion from a social media personality instead of a traditional doctor’s office.
While a representative for the actress did not immediately provide a comment, Bell herself previously touched on the saga during an episode of her husband Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.
Bell revealed that the mastermind behind the five-week prank was her Nobody Wants This co-star, Justine Lupe. While filming the Netflix series, Lupe and fellow actor Adam Brody reportedly staged conversations about the nutritious and very vitamin-dense qualities of morning urine specifically to pique Bell’s well-known curiosity.
The Frozen star admitted she was in total disbelief until Lupe began bringing fake samples into work to make the ruse seem authentic. After more than a month of the deception, Lupe finally confessed it was all a joke, leading Bell to consult Varshavski, who ultimately advised her that there were a lot better ways to remineralize, such as simply taking a multivitamin.
Kristen Bell has remained at the center of the Hollywood conversation, most notably serving as the host for the 32nd Annual Actor Awards on March 1. During the ceremony. She poked fun at the event’s recent rebranding from the SAG Awards, joking that we nipped the SAG and now it’s just the Actor Awards.
The actress is also celebrating the continued success of her romantic comedy series Nobody Wants This, which saw its second season premiere in late 2025. The new episodes introduced Leighton Meester to the cast as a childhood rival, further complicating the central relationship between Bell’s character, Joanne, and Adam Brody’s Noah.
Looking ahead, Bell has several high-profile projects scheduled for release later this year and into 2027. She is currently in post-production for the holiday sequel Violent Night 2, where she will star as Mrs. Claus, and she recently closed a deal to voice the fan-favorite character Amy Rose in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
Additionally, Disney fans are eagerly awaiting her return to Arendelle for Frozen III, which is currently in pre-production for a 2027 release. Whether she is leading major awards ceremonies or navigating elaborate pranks on set, Bell continues to be one of the most candid and entertaining figures in the industry today.
