‘Doctor Strange 3’ Could Be Marvel’s Secret 2027 Film — With Stephen Teaming Up With Doom for a Greater Cause
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is slowing down its movie releases over the next few years, but some big titles are still coming. We already know about Spider-Man: Brand New Day, arriving on July 31, 2026, Doomsday later that December, and Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027.
However, there’s another Marvel movie quietly sitting on the release calendar for July 23, 2027. Marvel hasn’t revealed what it is yet, but sources say it’s not going to be an X-Men movie.
With only a few known projects in development, fans have been guessing it could be Shang-Chi 2, Black Panther 3, or Doctor Strange 3. Right now, the strongest rumor points toward it being Doctor Strange 3.
At the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Stephen Strange and Clea set off on a mission to investigate incursions, dangerous events where universes collide. If this theory is right, their search will take them into something much bigger, and much worse. Reality itself will start breaking apart, forcing Strange into an unexpected alliance with Doctor Doom.
Yes, Doom, one of Marvel’s most dangerous villains. But in this story, Strange wouldn’t be teaming up with him to help Doom rule. Instead, they would be working together to save reality from complete destruction.
This idea lines up with Marvel Comics. In the Secret Wars storyline, when the Multiverse finally collapsed, Doom took the power of the Beyonders and pieced together a new world from the fragments of destroyed realities. This world was called Battleworld, and Doom ruled it like an emperor. Doctor Strange became his right-hand man, acting as Battleworld’s sheriff and commander of the Thor Corps, a group that enforced Doom’s laws.
There are already rumors that the Thor Corps will appear in the upcoming Avengers movies. In the comics, Doom and Strange worked side by side for years, even altering people’s memories so they wouldn’t remember their old lives. But Strange never fully trusted Doom, and eventually, he freed a group of survivors from Earth-616, including Mr. Fantastic and Black Panther. Doom didn’t like this and, after a heated confrontation, killed Strange.
In the MCU version, things could play out a bit differently. Strange’s alliance with Doom would likely be clear from the beginning: he’s working with him only to protect reality, not to help him conquer it. But this uneasy partnership could still lead to Strange’s death, just like in the comics.
In the original storyline, Doom was eventually defeated by Reed Richards, and Franklin Richards used his powers to rebuild reality. Strange later returned to life, but with his memories of Battleworld completely erased. This gave him a fresh start, something that would fit perfectly with Marvel Studios’ rumored soft reboot after Secret Wars. Marvel boss Kevin Feige has even hinted that some major roles could be recast after the reboot, and this would be a very comic-accurate way to reset Doctor Strange.
If Marvel follows this path, Doctor Strange 3 would set the stage for some of the biggest moments in the MCU’s history. It could explain how Doom becomes such a major player, how the Thor Corps are introduced, and why Strange’s role in Secret Wars is so crucial. And if it ends with his apparent death, it would make his eventual return after Secret Wars even more dramatic.
This theory might sound wild, but it matches up with known rumors, comic history, and Marvel’s long-term storytelling style. If true, it would mean that Stephen Strange’s next movie isn’t just another sequel, it’s a key piece of the puzzle leading into Marvel’s next major crossover event.
So is the secret July 2027 movie Doctor Strange 3? Right now, it’s looking more and more likely. And if this theory plays out, fans should prepare for a story that teams up two of Marvel’s most powerful characters, not as enemies, but as reluctant allies, fighting for the survival of reality itself.
