Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is sort of like Spider-Man: No Way Home of 2022. In other words, it is one of the most anticipated Marvel projects this year and in general. Ever since the movie was officially announced in 2019, the fans have been waiting for it, especially because the movie is promising a wild Multiverseal ride featuring not only Benedict Cumberbatch’s Master of the Mystic Arts, but also Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, who is more powerful than ever following the events of WandaVision, and numerous other characters that are either confirmed or rumors to appear, like Patrick Stewart’s Professor X from FOX’s X-Men franchise.
The first official footage of the movie was revealed as the post-credit scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and it was posted on youtube only a couple of days after the movie’s premiere in theaters. The official trailer was revealed during this year’s Super Bowl, and Marvel now revealed a new 30-second spot that shows us a bit more footage and announces that tickets for the movie will go on sale next Wednesday, April 6, which is exactly one month before the movie’s premiere in theaters worldwide.
UPDATE: According to the ticketing company Fandango, the movie’s official runtime will be 2 hours and 6 minutes, which is significantly shorter than previous reports that were saying 2 hours and 26 minutes, and some even mentioned 3 hours.
Sam Raimi, director of the Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire signed to direct this project after Scott Derrickson, director of 2016’s Doctor Strange stepped down due to creative differences. Benedict Cumberbatch returns as the titular character and Elizabeth Olsen is the special guest star as Scarlet Witch. The movie is also starring returning stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, and Rachel McAdams, while newcomer Xochitl Gomez is set to debut as America Chavez.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released on May 6, 2022.
