A much beloved sci-fi franchise, Doctor Who has been one of the pillars of modern science fiction and is still, despite its ups and downs, a much beloved series with a worldwide following.

The series is known for its crossovers and while we have reported on many such moments in the past, it is time for something completely different, as the Monty Python guys would say.

Namely, it has been confirmed that the current Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, will appear at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest to read the votes of the British jury during the contest.

And while Gatwa is not the first Doctor Who alum to appear on the show, he is the first Doctor to do so. At this moment, it is unclear whether he will appear as The Doctor or a himself, but seeing Gatwa will certainly make a lot of fans happy.

As for the occasion, you might already know it. Namely, we have reported that a special Eurovision-themed episode of Doctor Who will air this season. The episode will give us a glimpse of the so-called Interstellar Song Contest, a contest like the ESC, but on a universal level.

Graham Norton will have a guest appearance in that episode, so Gatwa’s appearance at the actual ESC is probably a sweet quid pro quo we are sure is going to make fans of both projects happy.

The special episode will air on the same day as the Eurovision final, May 17, which is held in Basel, Switzerland.
