Doechii is making her feelings about felines very clear, and she isn’t backing down from the ensuing digital debate. Earlier this week, the Grammy-winning rapper, whose real name is Jaylah Hickmon, took to Threads to voice her long-standing distaste for cats.

Her blunt assessment quickly drew the attention of pet enthusiasts across the platform, many of whom jumped to the defense of their four-legged companions. The Alter Ego performer didn’t mince words, writing that people act like it’s a crime to dislike cats when they genuinely aren’t friendly animals.

She argued that the animals are inherently less domestic than people like to believe and suggested that they should simply be left alone. She doubled down on her stance by adding that it is rare that cats are immediately lovey without years of pain and work put in.

Doechii also aimed at the physical toll of cat ownership, joking that many owners spend their time scratched and beat tf up by their own animals. When fans replied with personal stories of cats acting more like dogs, the rapper was quick to point out that their affection for the animals seemed to rely on them mimicking a completely different species.

She remained steadfast even as users accused her of spreading common misconceptions about feline behavior. Despite the lighthearted sparring, the Florida native proved she isn’t a total hater by complimenting one fan’s pet on its pretty eyes.

She eventually urged everyone to calm down, stating that the world would be just fine even if she happened to think cats were mean. While she acknowledged that some people have great bonds with their pets, she made it clear that her own feelings of mutual dislike remain unchanged.

In the music world, Doechii is currently riding the massive wave of success following her landmark 2025 Grammy win for Best Rap Album for her mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal. The project, which was hailed by critics as a genre-blurring masterpiece, solidified her place as one of the most exciting voices in modern hip-hop.

She followed up that victory with her Grammy-winning music video for the single Anxiety, which has become a viral sensation for its raw and theatrical storytelling. Looking ahead, fans are eagerly awaiting her official debut studio album, which she has been teasing throughout her recent Live From The Swamp tour.

In addition to her music, Doechii has been expanding her presence in the fashion and film industries. After receiving praise for her debut acting role in the 2023 film Earth Mama, she has hinted at exploring more dramatic roles that allow her to showcase her versatility.

Whether she is dominating the charts or sparking heated debates about pets on social media, the self-proclaimed Swamp Princess continues to be one of the most transparent and compelling figures in entertainment.
