Doja Cat recently shared a bizarre and tense exchange she had with her father, Dumisani Dlamini, while she was in South Africa for a major performance. In a series of videos posted to her TikTok account, titled “The Deadbeat Chronicles,” the Grammy-winning artist explained that she reached out to her father to invite him to her show in Pretoria.

However, the conversation quickly became strained when he declined the invitation, citing their lack of regular communication as the reason for his absence. The singer told her followers that her father claimed he could not attend because she does not message him enough or call him on WhatsApp.

“On a lighter note, I was messaging my father ’cause he’s here in Africa and he said that he couldn’t make it to my show because I don’t message him enough and I didn’t call him on WhatsApp,” she recalled.

In response to his excuses, Doja Cat decided to play a prank by sending him a link that she claimed was for a ticket purchase. Instead of a ticket website, the link actually led to explicit adult content. “So I sent him gay p**n and said if you go to this link you can get a ticket super duper easy,”* she admitted during her social media update.

Her father did not immediately realize what the link was and reportedly told her he would have his management team handle the “purchase” because he was too busy with rehearsals.

The back-and-forth continued throughout the day as Dlamini insisted he was too occupied with work to look at his phone. Eventually, he opened the link and was shocked by what appeared on his screen.

“He said, ‘Darling, what is this? What I’m seeing is gay p**n. Ha ha. It’s like a p****o on my screen,’” Doja Cat said, laughing at his confusion. He told her he was unsure if it was a scam and still could not figure out how to get a ticket.

This latest interaction adds another layer to their notoriously complicated relationship, which has played out in the public eye for years. Dlamini, a well-known South African actor, has recently hit back at claims that he was an absent father, alleging that Doja’s mother influenced her perception of him.

While the singer treated the prank as a joke, the underlying tension regarding his absence from her childhood remains a recurring theme in her public life. Aside from this family drama, Doja Cat is currently in the middle of her massive “Tour Ma Vie World Tour,” which kicked off in late 2025.

She recently performed at the Global Citizen Move Afrika concert in Pretoria on March 20, marking her first-ever performance in her father’s home country. Her fifth studio album, Vie, was released in September 2025 and has been a major commercial success, featuring the hit single “Jealous Type.”

Dumisani Dlamini also remains active in the South African entertainment industry, where he has worked for over three decades. He recently appeared in the Showmax film Mkhonto and is well-known for his roles in iconic productions like Sarafina! and the hit series The Wife.
