Dominic West and Sienna Miller Are Going Head-To-Head in HBO’s Brutal New Legal Drama ‘War’
British television has produced no shortage of prestige legal dramas over the years, but few have managed to combine courtroom tension with genuine tabloid-level scandal quite as directly as this fall’s newest offering. Pairing two of the UK’s most recognizable acting names only raises the stakes further.
Dominic West, best known for his career-defining turn on ‘The Wire,’ and Sienna Miller, most recently seen in ‘Anatomy of a Scandal,’ have teamed up for a project that trades crime drama and political intrigue for something far more personal: a scorched-earth divorce. It marks their first major collaboration as co-leads, following a brief prior pairing in the 2016 short film ‘The Tale of Thomas Burberry.’
HBO and Sky have officially released the trailer for ‘War,’ an eight-episode legal drama premiering October 1 on HBO and streaming weekly on HBO Max. The series follows the explosive divorce of British tech entrepreneur Morgan Henderson, played by West, and international film star Carla Duval, played by Miller, as two of London’s most powerful law firms go to war on their behalf.
Those firms, Cathcarts & Sons and Taylor & Byrne, are described in the show’s marketing as clashing in what has been billed as the biggest divorce trial in British legal history. The trailer’s tagline, “divide then conquer,” sets the tone for a season built entirely around the fallout of one relationship’s collapse spiraling into a headline-grabbing courtroom battle.
Caught in the middle of that legal firestorm is ambitious young lawyer Jonathan “Johnny” Warren, played by Archie Renaux, who finds himself pulled into a world where, according to the show’s official synopsis, “ambition is currency, betrayal is strategy, and winning is everything.” The trailer opens with West and Miller’s characters reflecting on how they’ve grown apart before the legal maneuvering fully takes over.

Rounding out the cast are Phoebe Fox as Serena Byrne and James McArdle as Nicholas Taylor, life and business partners at Taylor & Byrne, facing off against Nina Sosanya’s Beatrice “Queen Bea” Ubosi and Pip Torrens’s St John Smallwood at rival firm Cathcarts & Sons. The extended ensemble also includes Celia Imrie, Nick Mohammed, Emma Laird, Archie Panjabi, Honor Swinton Byrne, and Miles Jupp.
‘War’ comes from creator George Kay, whose credits include ‘Lupin,’ ‘Killing Eve,’ ‘Hijack,’ and ‘Litvinenko,’ giving the project a pedigree built on tightly wound thrillers rather than traditional courtroom procedurals. The series is co-produced by New Pictures and Observatory Pictures for Sky and HBO, with Ben Taylor serving as lead director across the eight-episode run.

Early reactions to the trailer have already drawn comparisons to ‘Marriage Story,’ though with a sharper thriller edge woven into its courtroom setting. Notably, the show has already been renewed for a second season, which is reportedly in production and will reportedly follow the two rival firms into an explosive defamation case stemming from the fallout of the first season’s divorce.
