Netflix is planning to end this year on a high note with Don’t Look Up – a sci-fi black comedy movie starring giant stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. As the movie is closing in, now Netflix unveiled the official trailer.

Like one commentator on the trailer said: Netflix tends to drop their best movies in the September-December period, and they could be quite right. Director Adam McKay, who brought us terrific movies The Big Short and Vice teamed up with Academy Award winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence who are playing two astronomers trying to save the world. Sounds cliche when we say it like that, but considering the cast and crew, expectations for this movie are extremely high.

Adam McKay directed the 2015 movie The Big Short, for which he won an Academy Award for the Best Adapted Screenplay, and the movie was also nominated for the Best Achievement in Directing. Three years later, he directed Vice, a movie starring Christian Bale that was nominated for Best Original Screenplay, Best Achievement in Directing, and Best Picture.

This is Leonardo DiCaprio’s first movie since 2019 Tarantino’s movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, in which he played Rick Dalton. DiCaprio won an Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in 2016 for the movie The Revenant, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu.

This is also Jennifer Lawrence’s first movie since the 2019 movie Dark Phoenix, where she played Raven/Mystique, the role that she played in three other X-Men movies. She’s also known for the Hunger Games movie franchise. She won an Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in 2013 for the movie Silver Linings Playbook, directed by David O. Russel.

Two low-level astronomers must go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet Earth.
