Dragon Ball fans can officially stop looking for the seven Dragon Balls because their biggest wish has just been granted. During the Genkidamatsuri event on Sunday, January 25, a major celebration for the franchise’s 40th anniversary, it was confirmed that a new sequel series is finally coming to television.

The new project is titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol and will pick up the story right where the original anime left off. Akio Iyoku, the president of Capsule Corporation Tokyo and executive producer for the series, broke the news during the event’s opening stage. While he confirmed that production is officially underway, he did not give a specific release date for the new adventures.

Even though the sequel might still be a bit far off, fans won’t be left empty-handed for long. A special remake of the first part of the Super story was also revealed, titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. This “enhanced edition” is scheduled to air in the fall of 2026 and promises to fix some of the animation issues and pacing problems from the original 2015 run.

Iyoku explained that this version of the story is meant to feel like a fresh start for the series. We call this an enhanced edition that reconstructs the story, Iyoku said during the presentation. He also mentioned that the team worked hard to make this version stick much closer to the original drafts and ideas created by the late Akira Toriyama.

The announcement of The Galactic Patrol is a huge relief for a fandom that has been in limbo since Toriyama’s passing in 2024. After the Universe Survival arc ended in 2018, the anime went on a long hiatus while the manga continued to tell new stories. This new series will finally bring those manga pages to life, specifically the fan-favorite arc featuring the terrifying villain Moro.

In this next chapter, Goku and Vegeta join forces with the Galactic Patrol, a group of space-faring peacekeepers. Together, they must track down Planet-Eater Moro, an ancient wizard who regains his magic and starts consuming the life force of entire planets. A teaser image for the show was shown at the event, featuring the two Saiyan rivals standing in front of the Galactic Patrol logo.

Dragon Ball has moved past being just a cartoon and has become a lifelong companion for millions of people around the world. Seeing the story continue with such a high-stakes adventure proves that the legacy of Goku is in good hands. With a polished remake coming this fall and a massive new sequel in production, the future of the series has never looked brighter.

Akio Iyoku is a central figure in the modern era of the franchise, having recently moved the rights for the series to his new company, Capsule Corporation Tokyo, to better manage the brand’s global reach. He was joined on stage by the legendary Masako Nozawa, the 89-year-old voice of Goku, who has been with the character since the very beginning in 1986.

Aside from the anime news, the Genkidamatsuri event also teased a brand-new original video game titled Dragon Ball: Age 1000, which is slated for a 2027 release. The game is said to feature a completely original character designed by Akira Toriyama before he passed away. Fans also got a glimpse of new DLC for the hit game Sparking! ZERO, which will include characters like King Piccolo and Super Android 17.

The fall 2026 premiere of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is expected to bridge the gap between the recently finished Dragon Ball Daima and the start of the Super timeline. Many insiders believe this “enhanced” series will eventually lead directly into the premiere of the Moro arc in 2027. For now, the community is simply happy to know that the hunt for the Dragon Balls is far from over.
