Dua Lipa Swapped Pop Stages for a Family Wedding in Kosovo, and Her Dance With Dad Is Going Viral
For all the stadium tours and red carpets, Dua Lipa has never hidden how central her family and heritage are to her life. Dua Lipa’s cousin’s wedding gave fans a rare, joyful look at that side of the pop star, far from the glitz of her usual public appearances. The singer, born in London on August 22, 1995, is the eldest child of Kosovo Albanian parents Anesa and Dukagjin Lipa, both originally from Pristina.
That connection runs deep. Her first name was suggested by her grandmother and means “love” in Albanian, and she received Albanian citizenship in 2022. She even chose to end her Future Nostalgia Tour in Tirana in November 2022, marking Albanian Flag Day and the 110th anniversary of Albanian independence.
It’s also been a big year for love in the Lipa family. The singer married actor Callum Turner, first in a legal ceremony at Marylebone Town Hall in May and then at a grand wedding in Italy a week later.
This time, though, the spotlight belonged to someone else. On Sunday, September 27, Lipa shared a carousel of photos and videos on Instagram from her cousin And Gjakova’s wedding to bride Rozafa Kelmendi in Pristina, Kosovo. In the caption, she celebrated her cousin marrying the woman of his dreams at a proper Albanian wedding, tagging the couple and adding that their family circle is growing.
The standout moment came from the dance floor. In one clip, Lipa performs a traditional Albanian valle dance with her father, both of them balancing glasses on their heads while friends and family cheer them on. Some guests waved traditional valle handkerchiefs, while others clapped as they surrounded father and daughter.
Dukagjin Lipa clearly had just as much fun as his famous daughter. He joked in the comments that he was still dancing, perfectly capturing the celebratory mood of the weekend.
The carousel offered plenty of intimate glimpses beyond the dancing. Lipa posed with her mother, Anesa, and her sister, Rina, and snapped selfies with her father and brother, Gjin. Other shots showed the newlyweds cutting a giant 4-tier wedding cake and sitting together in a car.
One lively selfie captures Lipa beaming at the center of a group of relatives under warm red lighting, with her father in a tuxedo and bow tie beside her. The post also included playful photos taken in the back of a car and one of Lipa embracing a fellow guest outside.
Of course, Lipa’s style didn’t go unnoticed. She wore an intricately embellished gold top with a plunging keyhole neckline, paired with black trousers, for the family celebration. Another look from the weekend saw her in a sleek, form-fitting black dress with thin spaghetti straps and a dramatic backless design.
Followers responded with overwhelming warmth. One fan joked that the Lipa family genes deserve to be written about in history books, while another simply called her an “Albanian queen” as the post collected more than 2 million likes. Some fans did notice one missing face. Turner did not appear to attend the wedding, with Lipa instead joined by her parents and 2 siblings.
Moments like this show why Lipa’s connection to Kosovo and Albanian culture remains such a beloved part of her public identity. Between world tours and a whirlwind year of her own nuptials, she still made time to celebrate with family in the most traditional way possible. For fans used to seeing her command massive stages, watching her balance a glass on her head alongside her dad might just be one of her most charming performances yet.
