Career pivots don’t always announce themselves with a press release; sometimes they show up first as grainy set photos that spread across social media before anyone official says a word. That’s exactly how fans learned about one of the more unexpected pairings to hit London film sets this summer.

Rebecca Ferguson has spent the better part of the last decade embedded in some of Hollywood’s biggest action franchises, going toe-to-toe with Tom Cruise across the ‘Mission: Impossible’ series and navigating the political intrigue of Arrakis as Lady Jessica in the ‘Dune’ films. Outside of a handful of exceptions like ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’ and ‘Men in Black: International,’ comedy hasn’t exactly been her home turf.

That’s what made recent set photos so surprising. Ferguson and Greta Lee were spotted filming together at Horse Guards Parade in central London, working on what’s being described as an untitled romantic comedy, a considerable tonal shift from the explosions and desert politics Ferguson has built her recent career around.

Details about the film itself remain scarce, with no studio or production company having officially confirmed anything about the project. Its title, director, and wider cast are all still unknown, leaving fans to piece together clues from set sightings alone.

The clearest hint about the story actually came from Lee herself, well before the London set photos even surfaced. Speaking with Willem Dafoe in a conversation for Interview Magazine tied to their film ‘Late Fame,’ Lee was asked what she was currently working on. “It’s a romance, but it’s between two women, and I haven’t done that before,” she said, adding with a laugh, “Full on, baby.”

This isn’t the first time Ferguson and Lee have shared a set. The two previously appeared together in Kathryn Bigelow’s 2025 political thriller ‘A House of Dynamite,’ a Netflix release that gave audiences their first glimpse of the pair working alongside each other before this romcom pairing came together.

That existing chemistry likely made this reunion feel like a natural next step for both actresses, even as the genre itself represents new territory for each of them. Lee has built her own recent momentum through acclaimed performances in ‘Late Fame’ opposite Dafoe and ‘The Last House,’ currently streaming on Netflix, alongside her breakout work in ‘Past Lives.’

For Ferguson specifically, stepping into a lighthearted romantic project feels like a deliberate departure from the high-stakes, effects-heavy work that’s defined much of her recent filmography. Between blockbuster franchise commitments and prestige television work on Apple TV+’s ‘Silo,’ she hasn’t had many opportunities to explore something built around softer, character-driven storytelling.

That shift comes at an interesting moment for Ferguson publicly as well, following a widely circulated, playful interaction with a female interviewer during San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year. Combined with this new romantic project alongside Lee, fans have taken notice of a lighter, more personal side of Ferguson’s public persona emerging alongside her usual blockbuster commitments.

With filming already underway and fan interest building quickly around the pairing, more official details will likely emerge in the coming months as the project moves closer to completion. For now, fans are left piecing together the story from set photos and Lee’s earlier comments, but the combination of two accomplished actresses stepping into unfamiliar genre territory together has already generated plenty of excitement.
