Durarara!! Season 3 release date
Based on the novel series, animation studio Brain’s Base produced an anime television series directed by Takahiro Ōmori. Main author was Noboru Takagi. Character design was by Takahiro Kishida based on the original drawings by Suzuhito Yasuda, and Akira Itō was in charge of art direction, while Akira Takata was in charge of animation.
Depending on the episode, the story is told from the perspective of a different character and gradually the narrative strands are combined into a whole. The series started after midnight on January 8, 2010, the previous day of television on MBS, where it ran for 24 episodes through June 25, 2010. Stations TBS and Chubu-Nippon Broadcasting also began broadcasting a few days later. At the same time, the series was also offered as a stream with English subtitles on Crunchyroll.
On March 16, 2014, the sequel Durarara!!×2 was announced at the annual Dengeki Game Festival in Tokyo’s Akihabara district. This will also switch to the new animation studio Studio Shuka with the same production staff. The sequel was announced to be divided into several parts that would be released every six months: Durarara!!×2 Shō from January 2015; Durarara!!×2 Ten, from July 2015; and Durarara !!×2 Ketsu, as of January 2016.
Durarara!!×2 Shō ran for 12 episodes from January 10 to March 28, 2015 first on Tokyo MX, Gunma TV and Tochigi TV, and also with delay on BS11, Mainichi Hōsō, and CBC. As with its predecessor, this series will be simulcast streamed by Crunchyroll with English subtitles in the Americas and the British Isles. Durarara!!×2 Ten ran from July 4 to September 29, 2015 and Durarara!!×2 Ketsu from January 9, 2016 to March 26, 2016, each with 12 episodes on the same channels and also on Crunchyroll.
A 25-minute OVA for the series was also released in Japan in 2015, titled Durarara!!×2 Ten Gaiden!?. What does all of this tell us about the third season?
Taking all of this into account, Durarara!!‘s future seems very bright, despite the current six-year hiatus. The source works are, as we have said, quite popular, as was the anime series, and the fact that the franchise has a large fanbase, combined with the fact that written works are consistently produced, makes us very hopeful. In any case, the earliest we could see a potential second season is 2023, but a more realistic scenario is either late 2023 or even 2024, if it even happens.
Durarara!! Season 3 trailer
You now know all the facts and our thoughts related to Durarara!! Season 3, which means that you’ve probably deduced for yourselves that there is no trailer for the third season of Durarara!!. This is because we do not know whether there will even be a third season of the show, which means that a trailer might not appear at all. But, based on all the information we have, this does not seem like a likely outcome.
As we have said, Durarara!! is a very likely candidate for a return. The ongoing manga series still has more material up for adapting and the anime is quite popular as well, enormously so, in fact. Still, we have to wait and see whether there are actual plans for a continuation before we can make a proper prediction. Be that as it may, Durarara!! is currently on a long hiatus until we get more information on the show’s future.
Taking into account everything we’ve said, a trailer for Durarara!! is unlikely to come out this year. The earliest we could see a trailer is 2023, but we would have to get confirmation of a second season sometime during 2022 or early 2023 for that to happen.
Durarara!! Season 3 plot
At this moment, we do not know which parts of the larger Durarara!! series are going to be adapted in Season 3. Namely, the first two seasons of the anime had a very self-contained adaptation schedule and adapted only part of the larger series, which means that there are a lot more chapters (of both the light novel and the manga) to adapt. But, at this moment, we cannot really speculate as to what would be the content of season 3. What follows is a general overview of the show’s plot, in order to give you a general idea of what to expect from the series if you decide to watch it at one point.
For a long time, young Mikado Ryūgamine lived only in the small town where he was born and could not even come to class trips. With the start of high school, he wants to participate in the exciting life of a big city and follows the invitation of his childhood friend Masaomi Kida to a school in Ikebukuro. Masaomi shows his friend the city and introduces him to some of his friends, and finally, he warns of people and gangs that Mikado should better avoid.
These include the violent Shizuo Heiwajima, the information seller Izaya Orihara and a mysterious gang called the Dollars. On his very first day, he also manages to catch a glimpse of an urban legend: a headless motorcyclist who works as a courier for the Ikebukuro underground. The motorcyclist lives with Shinra Kishitani, a doctor who works for the criminal in Ikebukuro.
Twenty years ago, the Dullahan named Celty Sturluson came to Japan from Ireland in search of her lost head. Here she hopes to get more information about her head, which she feels close to her while carrying out assignments for the Tokyo underworld. She met her roommate, who is interested in her nature but also in her as a woman, on her trip when he was still a child.
In his class, Mikado is chosen to be the speaker, along with the reserved girl Anri Sonohara. Soon Masaomi and Mikado see their classmate being threatened by some girls and a suspected member of the Dollars. When they want to intervene, Izaya comes along, then more dollars, and finally Shizuo, so that it degenerates into a fight – also because Shizuo hates Izaya and doesn’t want to see him in Ikebukuro.
His hatred is based not only on his basic dislike but on the fact that Izaya once framed him for a crime and Shizuo lost his job as a barman. Nevertheless, he still wears his bar outfit every day, even though he now works as a bodyguard for the debt collector Tom. Shizuo is exceptionally strong as his body cannot contain his power.
Although he often injured himself as a child, he became more and more resilient. Masaomi is curious about what’s behind the Dollars, but finds out little about them. The group has no hierarchy and it seems that all members just do as they please. Masaomi’s friends also receive an invitation while rescuing an illegal immigrant they know from human traffickers.
Not long after, the rumor was that the dollars were saving people from being kidnapped. Namie Yagiri works in the company that commissions these kidnappings and conducts experiments and operations on them. Her brother Seiji Yagiri has been obsessed with the Dullahan head, which is in the family’s possession, since childhood.
When he disappears with his head one day, Namie Yagiri finds her brother with his head and the slain student Mika Harima who was stalking Seiji. With the head of the Dullahan on his body, Seiji finally wants to be able to live out his love. However, his obsession remains unreliable and puts the company’s machinations at risk. In addition, Namie is no less obsessed with her brother and jealous of his love.
Durarara!! Season 3 cast
It’s still too early for us to discuss a potential third season of Durarara!! in terms of cast and characters, simply because we do not know whether there will even be a third season. But, seeing how we know that the series is going to have a more-or-less fixed cast, we really don’t expect to see too many changes in the structure of season three, if it ever happens. Now, the main characters that have appeared in seasons one and two, likely to return for a third season, include:
Character | Japanese Voice Actor (Seiyū) |
---|---|
Celty Sturluson | Miyuki Sawashiro |
Mikado Ryūgamine | Toshiyuki Toyonaga |
Masaomi Kida | Mamoru Miyano |
Anri Sonohara | Kana Hanazawa |

Shinra Kishitani | Jun Fukuyama |
Where to watch Durarara!! Season 3?
At this moment, as expected, there is no means of watching Durarara!! season three, as there is no season three of Durarara!! to watch. The first two seasons were streamed globally by Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu, which is a large number of places for an anime series, so we’re practically certain that a third season would also be streamed on these networks.
Will there be a Durarara!! Season 4?
The future of Durarara!! is, as of this moment, unknown. At this moment, we don’t really know anything about a third season, so whether we’ll be seeing the fourth season or not is still unknown. The series has done well and there is still a lot of material to adapt, which is a good sign for fans of Durarara!!, but we are going to have to wait and see how the situation with season three evolves to know more about a potential season four, although it is likely.
