Dwayne Johnson has confirmed that filming for the next Jumanji movie, the untitled sequel to Jumanji: The Next Level, will begin this November. The film is set to hit theaters on December 11, 2026.

The upcoming installment is expected to continue the story from The Next Level (2019). Johnson previously hinted that the movie will explore the true identity of the player controlling the villain Jurgen the Brutal, who appeared in the last film.

Director Jake Kasdan has been developing the project for several years, and he plans to bring back the core cast from the previous films. Kevin Hart has confirmed that this sequel is likely to be the final entry in the Jumanji series.

Jumanji: The Next Level starred Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, and Madison Iseman, with Awkwafina, Danny Glover, and Danny DeVito joining the cast. The film’s plot followed the same group of teenagers two years after Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, as they were pulled back into the game to face new challenges and a new villain.

The 2019 movie performed well at the box office, grossing over $800 million worldwide on a budget of roughly $125–132 million.

It received mostly positive audience reactions, earning a B− from CinemaScore and a 72% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics generally called it entertaining, with the site noting, “Like many classic games, Jumanji: The Next Level retains core components of what came before while adding enough fresh bits to keep things playable.”

The sequel is being fast-tracked by Lionsgate and Johnson’s production company, Seven Bucks Productions. While the plot details are still under wraps, fans can expect the same mix of adventure, humor, and action that has made the series a hit.

It’s exciting to see the Jumanji team come together again, especially knowing this might be the final chapter. The franchise has a track record of combining fun and adventure with strong performances, and fans will likely be eager to see what new twists the filmmakers bring.
