Dwayne Johnson has shared some exciting news about the next Jumanji movie. The upcoming film is set to be the last movie in the franchise.

Johnson called it “a massive, fun, heartfelt adventure” and said it feels “emotionally appropriate for our beloved JUMANJI franchise to end on this beautiful grace note of our final film.”

Back in December 2019, Johnson revealed that the new movie would explore the villain from The Next Level, Jurgen the Brutal.

The story will show that Jurgen was an avatar in the game, and it will also reveal who was controlling him. Jake Kasdan, who directed the previous films, confirmed in March 2020 that early plans for the next movie were underway. He also said the film would keep the main cast from the earlier movies.

The project faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but in October 2022, producer Hiram Garcia confirmed that Kasdan would focus on the next Jumanji movie after finishing work on Red One (2024). In March 2023, Kevin Hart shared that this film would likely be the final one in the series.

The new Jumanji movie officially got a release date in October 2024, and marketing for the film started with a poster reveal at CinemaCon this year. By November, Kasdan also said he would like Kirsten Dunst and Bonnie Hunt to return from the original 1995 movie.

In October, it was announced that Brittany O’Grady and Burn Gorman had joined the cast, with filming planned to start the following month.

The official Jumanji Twitter account shared the news, writing, “New level unlocked. #JumanjiMovie is officially in production.” The post included a photo of Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan together at a panel in Los Angeles. Johnson also confirmed the news on Instagram, saying filming will soon take place in Los Angeles.

Fans might notice a fun throwback in the new movie. Johnson shared pictures referencing the original 1995 Jumanji, including a dice on a necklace. He explained, “The significance of the dice in the last picture is a little Easter egg that my character, Dr. Smolder Bravestone, wears on a necklace in our final film.

It’s the dice from the original 1995 JUMANJI and a way of paying homage, love, and respect to the great Robin Williams.” This hints that the new movie might bring back the original board game, connecting the story to the very first film.

The untitled sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on December 11, 2026. Fans are already excited to see the beloved cast back together and to experience one last Jumanji adventure.
