Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence’s Kids Are Expecting Their First Baby Together
The worlds of two comedy legends are officially merging in the most heartwarming way possible. Eddie Murphy’s son, Eric, and Martin Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin, have announced they are expecting their first child together. The news has sent fans into a frenzy, as the upcoming arrival will have two of the greatest comedic minds in history as grandfathers.
The couple shared their joy in a joint social media post on Monday, February 2, 2026. The announcement featured beautiful photos of Jasmin cradling her baby bump and the pair posing together. Thank you Jesus for the greatest gift, they wrote in the caption, clearly thrilled about the new chapter in their lives.
Supporters quickly filled the comments with jokes about the child’s future. Many pointed out that having both Eddie and Martin in your family tree is practically a guarantee for a good sense of humor. The couple’s journey to parenthood has moved quite fast over the last few years. They began dating in 2021 and got engaged in late 2024. However, it was recently revealed that they skipped the massive wedding plans everyone expected and opted for something much more intimate.
During a television appearance last year, Eddie Murphy dropped the news that they had actually tied the knot in a quiet ceremony. Actually, they got married, like, two weeks ago, he said at the time. He explained that they went off to a church with just a preacher and decided they wanted a private moment rather than a spectacle.
Eddie even joked about his fellow comedian and now in-law, Martin Lawrence. Yeah, we’re in-laws. And he doesn’t have to pay for that big wedding now, he teased. He also admitted that he wasn’t even at the small ceremony himself because it was strictly for the two of them.
Before they were even married, Eddie expressed how much he loved the pairing during an interview. Just our gene pool is going to make this funny baby, he told Gayle King. He added that if they ever had a child, he was expecting the child to be funny simply because of the talent on both sides of the family.
While they prepare for their new grandchild, both grandfathers are staying incredibly busy in their own careers. Eddie Murphy is set to receive the prestigious AFI Life Achievement Award on April 18, at the Dolby Theatre. He is also working on several big projects, including the upcoming Shrek 5.
Martin Lawrence is currently in the middle of a massive stand-up comedy tour titled Y’all Still Know What It Is! which will travel across the country through the summer of 2026. With so much success and a new baby on the way, it is a celebratory time for both the Murphy and Lawrence families.
