Recently the streaming giant shared the first look at the live-action One Piece Season 2, but they also dropped a bombshell: Season 3 is already in the works. The event had fans buzzing with excitement over what’s coming next for Luffy and the Straw Hat crew.

But not everyone liked the cast for season two, and soon after the teaser was revealed, accusations started that One Piece has gone woke and that some characters are completely miscast.

Season 2 is set to introduce a bunch of new faces, including Marines, Baroque Works agents, pirates, and characters from upcoming arcs. Callum Kerr is stepping in as the tough-as-nails Smoker, with Matthew Leck playing a younger version of him. Julia Rehwald will take on Tashigi, while James Hiroyuki Liao is set to play Ipponmatsu. Rigo Sanchez will portray Dragon, and Clive Russell is bringing Crocus to life.

Daniel Lasker joins as Mr. 9, with Charithra Chandran as Miss Wednesday and Aroop Shergill as her younger self. The Baroque Works crew is stacked with Yonda Thomas as Igaram, Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5, Jazzara Jaslyn as Miss Valentine, Lera Abova as Miss All Sunday, David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, and Sophia Anne Caruso as Miss Goldenweek.

Fans can also look forward to Brendan Murray and Werner Coetser as the giant pirate captains Brogy and Dorry. For the Drum Island arc, Rob Colletti will play Wapol, Mark Penwill is Chess, Anton David Jeftha is K.M., Ty Keogh is Dalton, Katey Sagal is Dr. Kureha, and Mark Harelik is Dr. Hiruluk.

Eiichiro Oda, the mastermind behind One Piece, however, revealed that he personally picked this cast for the live-action series, including everyone for Season 2.

He’s thrilled with the choices, saying, “They were absolutely the perfect choice!!!” His hands-on involvement has fans hopeful that the show will stay true to the manga’s spirit. No matter what the comment section is saying.

Production for Season 2 kicked off in South Africa in June 2024, according to Netflix’s July 1, 2024, announcement. Filming wrapped on December 15, and on February 4, 2025, Netflix confirmed the season was fully done, sharing a new image of Luffy and the crew in Loguetown.

With Season 3 already greenlit, the One Piece live-action adventure is just getting started, and Oda’s stamp of approval on the cast has fans hyped for what’s next.

The second season is scheduled to premiere in 2026.
