Eiza González Reflects on Her Eating Disorder Journey With Powerful Before and After Photos
Eiza González is marking Eating Disorder Awareness Week by reflecting on her long journey toward establishing a healthy relationship with her body. The actress, who has just turned 36, recently took to social media to discuss the immense pressure of being thrust into the limelight as a teenager and how that scrutiny twisted her self-perception.
Growing up in Mexico City, González became a household name at just 15 through the Nickelodeon Latin America series Sueña conmigo. While her professional life was taking off, her personal world was still reeling from the sudden loss of her father.
She revealed that during this time, she turned to food as a coping mechanism, stating, Most of my life, my relationship with my body has been complicated. It began at a young age, after my father’s sudden death, when I coped with depression by eating compulsively—trying to soothe pain I hadn’t processed.
This emotional struggle led to significant physical changes right as she entered the public eye. By age 13, she had gained 30 pounds almost instantly while dealing with the triple threat of grief, puberty, and general confusion.
Once she became a star at 15, the world began to weigh in on her appearance. She recalled how every image was dissected, every detail criticized, and everyone seemed to have an opinion about my body, who I was, and who I should be.
The constant surveillance sparked deep body dysmorphia and a dangerous fixation on the scale. González admitted that she became consumed by the numbers, constantly weighing myself, measuring my worth in pounds, asking if losing more would make people like me, or make me like myself.
However, she soon realized that external validation was a moving target. The more she tried to mold herself into an industry standard, the more she felt like she was losing her true identity. Eventually, the Baby Driver star learned that the same mental energy used to “shrink” oneself can be redirected toward personal growth.
She wrote that what she once thought was strength—conforming to the noise—actually made her feel emptier than ever. Now, as an adult, she is vocal about the fact that her journey is ongoing and requires a daily commitment to kindness, care, and respect for her physical self.
Today, González is one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood, with a busy schedule ahead. Fans are currently awaiting the second season of the Netflix sci-fi epic 3 Body Problem, where she reprises her role as Dr. Auggie Salazar. Production for the final two seasons has been moving forward in Hungary, with a release anticipated later this year.
In the film world, she is set to reunite with director Guy Ritchie for the action-thriller In the Grey, which arrives in theaters on April 10. The high-stakes movie features a star-studded cast including Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Rosamund Pike.
Additionally, she will lead the crime comedy I Love Boosters alongside Keke Palmer and Demi Moore, which is scheduled for a May 22 release. Following the 2025 streaming success of Fountain of Youth, González has firmly established herself as a versatile lead capable of handling everything from intense sci-fi to gritty action.
