Elizabeth Debicki Turns Heads in All-Black Leather at New York ‘Wicker’ Screening
Few films this fall have arrived with as much curiosity as ‘Wicker’, the offbeat fantasy romance starring Elizabeth Debicki alongside Olivia Colman, Alexander Skarsgård and Peter Dinklage. Based on ‘The Wicker Husband’ by Ursula Wills-Jones, the story centers on a smelly, single fisherwoman on the outskirts of a seaside village who, fed up with her narrow-minded neighbors, commissions a husband made entirely of wicker.
The film first made waves as an official selection at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it was picked up by Black Bear. Earlier this month, the cast attended the movie’s London premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 8.
Now the promotional tour has moved stateside. Debicki was spotted in New York on October 13 heading to a screening of ‘Wicker’, making a sleek style statement in an all-black ensemble.
The actor wore a black leather button-up shirt paired with a matching leather pencil skirt. She finished the look with pointed black heels, a quilted black handbag on a chain strap, and her signature blonde hair worn loose.

Her appearance comes as the film ramps up its presence in the city. The official ‘Wicker’ account announced an early access screening on October 14 at the Angelika Film Center, complete with an in-person Q&A with writers and directors Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson.
The Angelika will also be among the New York theaters showing the film once it opens. ‘Wicker’ arrives in U.S. and Canadian theaters on October 23, with UK audiences able to catch it shortly after.

The film is described as an audacious comedic fable about sex, marriage and the absurdities of social convention. In the otherwise conservative town, the fisherwoman’s unusual romance sparks outrage, jealousy and chaos.
Colman leads the film as the fisherwoman, while Skarsgård takes on the role of the wicker husband. The ensemble also features Richard E. Grant, Nabhaan Rizwan, Marli Siu and Ella Bruccoleri.

The project has gone through several changes since it was first announced. Colman was originally set to star opposite Dev Patel, with the film slated to shoot in Hungary, before Skarsgård, Dinklage and Debicki later joined the cast.
Colman also serves as a producer alongside a team that includes David Michôd, and the film comes from Topic Studios. It runs about 1 hour and 45 minutes and carries an R rating.

Critics have been divided so far. The Times awarded it 4 out of 5 stars, praising Colman’s performance as the thing that lifts the movie, while the Daily Telegraph handed it just 1 star. That kind of split reaction isn’t surprising for a film with such an unusual premise. Still, the buzz around its bold concept has kept audiences talking ahead of release.
Black Bear is also planning something unique for viewers. One-night-only 4DX screenings of ‘Wicker’ are scheduled for October 28 at roughly 60 locations across the U.S., letting fans experience the film in a more immersive way.
For Debicki, ‘Wicker’ adds another intriguing credit to an impressive résumé. Born in Paris and raised in Melbourne, she trained in ballet before turning to acting and earned early attention for her role as Jordan Baker for director Baz Luhrmann.
She went on to star in ‘The Night Manager’ and the Australian mystery series ‘The Kettering Incident’. At Sundance, she joined Colman, Dinklage and the directors to discuss the film’s unconventional premise and their creative collaboration.
