An exciting new throwback is making rounds online. Last year, Elizabeth Olsen brought old Hollywood glam to the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she premiered her new film Eternity.

She arrived in a black sequined gown that felt classic but still fresh. Cameras followed her as she greeted fans and posed for photos. The moment showed how comfortable she has become as a leading name in film.

Eternity tells a strange but emotional love story. Olsen plays Joan, a woman who dies and wakes up in a place called the Junction. It is a kind of afterlife office where souls must make big choices. Joan has to decide who she wants to spend forever with. One option is Larry, her husband of sixty-five years. The other is Luke, her first love who died during the Korean War.

In interviews about the film, Olsen said she was first pulled in by the humor in the script. She liked that the story mixed deep questions with simple, human moments. She even joked about one scene in particular. She said, “the moment Larry dies choking on a pretzel, I thought, ‘God, I wish I were this lucky — where I get to grow old with my husband and then he goes choking on a pretzel.’” Her comments were shared during press interviews while promoting the movie.

The role was not easy. Joan is meant to be an eighty-year-old woman, even though she appears young. Olsen worked closely with director David Freyne to make sure Joan felt like someone who had lived a full life. That meant adjusting her voice, posture, and reactions to show age and experience.

The film also stars Miles Teller as Larry and Callum Turner as Luke. Da’Vine Joy Randolph and John Early appear as guides who help souls in the afterlife. The mix of romance and fantasy has helped the movie gain attention on streaming platforms, where it quickly became a popular title.

Olsen has been careful about the projects she chooses. She recently received praise for her work in His Three Daughters and The Assessment. Both films focused on deep character stories and showed a different side of her talent. She is also set to appear in the upcoming thriller Panic Carefully and is rumored to play Queen Arianna in a live-action adaptation that has not yet been fully detailed.

It feels like Olsen is in a strong place in her career. She is taking roles that challenge her and working with directors who trust her range. In my opinion, Eternity sounds like a smart mix of romance and big life questions, and her performance seems to be at the center of it. What do you think about her latest role? And if you were Joan, which husband would you choose? Share your thoughts in the comments.
