Few TV antiheroes are as unsettlingly relatable as Rhiannon Lewis. In ‘Sweetpea’, Ella Purnell plays a repressed wallflower who turns into a murderer, first by accident and then very much on purpose, in a darkly comic thriller that mixes humor, graphic violence and themes of loneliness.

The series is based on C.J. Skuse’s novels, and the first season ended with a bloody bang. Rhiannon earned a promotion at the local paper, the Carnsham Gazette, and killed AJ, the man she had started dating, after he discovered her secret.

Now the full first trailer for the second season has arrived, and the show is returning sooner than many fans expected. ‘Sweetpea’ season 2 premieres on November 26 on Sky in the U.K., with a U.S. release on Starz planned for early 2027.

The footage shows Rhiannon in a glamorous new setting, wearing a white halter dress at what looks like a red carpet or press event, as camera flashes and well-dressed guests surround her. Her quiet smile hints that she’s enjoying her new confidence, maybe a little too much.

The trailer follows a teaser released in August, which gave fans their first look at Rhiannon’s return. The new season puts Rhiannon in a very different place. She’s handling a promotion at work, a budding romance, and her sister’s decision to sell the family home, all while keeping her secret life hidden.

Trouble is closing in from several directions. Marina, a determined investigator who has never believed Rhiannon’s lies, is still on her trail, and a copycat killer threatens to expose her.

With her kill list growing, Rhiannon must also face an uncomfortable question: was AJ right when he called her a monster? That inner conflict looks set to drive much of the season’s drama. Several notable actors join Purnell this time. Rish Shah plays Gabriel, Rhiannon’s new love interest, while Tamsin Greig takes on the role of Liv, AJ’s mother.

Taj Atwal joins as Freya, Rhiannon’s new boss at the Carnsham Gazette, and Jenny Walser plays Daisy, a new friend. Their arrivals should create plenty of new chances for tension and dark comedy.

Returning cast members include Jon Pointing, Jeremy Swift, Leah Harvey, Ingrid Oliver, Nitin Ganatra and Alexandra Dowling, keeping the show’s strong ensemble intact. Selina Lim takes over as lead writer, with episodes also written by Emme Hoy, Anna Jordan and Laura Jayne Tunbridge. Ella Jones returns as lead director, while Coky Giedroyc directs several episodes.

The series is produced by See-Saw Films and Fanboy in association with Sky Studios. Purnell is also an executive producer, alongside original series writer Kirstie Swain and others.

The new season arrives during a big stretch for Purnell. She has also been filming the next season of ‘Fallout’, where she plays Lucy MacLean, adding to an already impressive genre résumé.

‘Sweetpea’ gives her a very different kind of role. Playing a woman who keeps getting away with murder lets Purnell mix vulnerability with menace, and the trailer suggests she’ll push both further than ever. With a copycat on the loose and an investigator closing in, Rhiannon’s double life has never been more fragile. Fans will soon find out whether she can stay one step ahead.
