Emily Blunt Calls Cillian Murphy “The Worst Celebrity in the World” — Here’s Why
Emily Blunt recently opened up about her experience working with Cillian Murphy and shared her admiration for the actor in a candid interview with 60 Minutes. During the conversation, Blunt called Murphy the “worst celebrity in the world”, though she clarified that it was meant as a compliment.
Blunt explained that Murphy stays grounded despite his fame. “I feel he’s always in search, he’s looking off the horizon, looking at what else [he] could do, how far [he] could push it,” she said. She added that it would be painful for him to acknowledge just how talented he is. When asked if Murphy knows how good he is, Blunt replied, “No, I don’t think so. I don’t know if any of the great actors know or would say that about themselves.”
Murphy’s humility contrasts with the acclaim he has earned from his roles in Peaky Blinders and Oppenheimer. Blunt emphasized that he focuses on the craft rather than fame, saying, “He’s the best actor in the world and the worst celebrity in the world.” She also described him as her favorite actor to work with, praising how he draws people into his performance: “The whole room crackles with a certain life force when you work with him.”
The two actors starred together in the 2023 film Oppenheimer, which follows the life of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer. Murphy played Oppenheimer, while Blunt portrayed his wife. The film was both a critical and commercial success, earning both actors Oscar nominations.
Blunt’s comments highlight a rare side of Murphy that fans may not often see: a celebrated actor who remains humble and focused on his work rather than celebrity.
