The ‘Eragon‘ movie came out in 2006 but got bad reviews from both fans and critics. Many people felt it didn’t stay true to the book and had weak storytelling. Because of this, the planned sequels were never made.

Around 2021, 15 years after the movie was released, fans of the ‘Eragon’ books started using the hashtag #EragonRemake on Twitter. They wanted Disney, which owned the rights after buying 21st Century Fox, to turn the books into a TV series for Disney+. The hashtag quickly gained attention, and when author Christopher Paolini saw the movement, he supported it and even joined in.

On July 25, 2022, it was reported that a live-action ‘Eragon’ series was in early development for Disney+. Paolini was announced as a co-writer, with Bert Salke as the executive producer.

But, a lot has happened since 2022 and 2025, notably the industry strikes which delayed a lot of productions. But the franchise’s creator Christopher Paolini assured us that the development is still on track: “Btw, Disney+ #Eragon show is still on track. Can’t say anything more until a major contract gets signed. (Hollywood negotiations take forever.),” Paolini posted on Twitter on Saturday.

In 2022, Christopher Paolini shared his excitement on social media about the Eragon series finally happening. He mentioned that it took many meetings and discussions to reach this point, but there was still a long way to go. He also thanked fans for their support, saying their dedication helped make the project possible.
