Eric Dane Opens up About Living With Als in Final Interview Before Passing
Eric Dane’s final interview, given in December 2025 during a virtual panel for I Am ALS, serves as a poignant reminder of his strength in the face of tragedy. The actor, who passed away on February 19 at the age of 53, used the appearance to discuss his guest role on the NBC series Brilliant Minds.
In a rare instance of art imitating life, he played a character battling the same neurodegenerative disease he was fighting in reality. Reflecting on the role, Dane admitted that the experience was deeply emotional and physically taxing.
He shared that it was hard to film and noted there were times when he found it very difficult to deliver his lines. He acknowledged the grim reality of the disease, stating that nobody survives this, and noted that he had never before played a character whose struggle mirrored his own in real time.

Though they had been separated since 2018, they decided to stay legally married and focused on co-parenting their two daughters, Billie and Georgia. Dane noted that while he was willing to take on any role, he felt that his future work would have to be ALS-centric to continue his advocacy.
Fans will soon see the final performances of the actor who once stole hearts as “McSteamy” on Grey’s Anatomy. His most anticipated posthumous appearance will be in the third season of HBO’s Euphoria, where he reprises his role as Cal Jacobs.
Reports indicate that Dane filmed his scenes for the new season while using a wheelchair, a testament to his dedication to the craft despite his declining health. The new season, starring Zendaya and Jacob Elordi, is expected to premiere in late April.
Beyond the screen, Dane’s voice will live on through his upcoming memoir, Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments. is scheduled for release later in the year by Maria Shriver’s The Open Field imprint, the book chronicles his life from his early days in Hollywood to his final journey with ALS.
He also completed work on the TV series Kabul and the thriller Countdown, ensuring that his artistic footprint remains visible even after his passing.
