Gen V season 2 is set to play a major role in connecting the spinoff to the final season of The Boys. The show follows Godolkin University students with superpowers, and Jaz Sinclair’s Marie Moreau is at the center of that connection.

Marie can control and weaponize blood, making her one of the most powerful characters in this universe. In season 1, she even survived a full optic blast from Homelander, the series’ most dangerous supe.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sinclair said, “I hoped that they would write more into that [for season 2], and they definitely did. It’s kind of like Harry Potter with Voldemort with the death curse. How did he survive?”

She also expressed excitement over the potential for Marie to rival Homelander in strength and influence, adding, “I was always hoping that they would write me to kill Homelander. I always really liked the idea of taking him out ’cause he’s such a royal ass, you know?”

Showrunner Eric Kripke, who oversees both The Boys and Gen V, explains that while Marie could be very powerful, the story will also examine the pressures of being a “chosen one.” “If she can control everybody’s blood, then what can’t she do? How is she not the most powerful superhero on the planet? Just because she has the potential to be, doesn’t mean that she is,” Kripke said.

He and Gen V showrunner Michele Fazekas want to explore how expectations and responsibility weigh on young heroes, keeping the focus on character development rather than just superpowers.

Season 2 takes place a few months after The Boys season 4. Godolkin University’s students, including Marie, Emma Meyer, Jordan Li, and Andre Anderson, are brought back from the Elmira Adult Rehabilitation Center, a kind of supe prison. Now the school is fully influenced by Homelander’s control of the government, mirroring the political tensions in the U.S.

Hamish Linklater joins as Dean Cipher, a morally ambiguous leader who enforces Homelander’s agenda on campus. “Cipher is an elite nuanced dancer of the human psyche. He’s trying to get everybody to level up. That’s the job of the dean — and by any means necessary,” Linklater said.

Marie remains a wild card, seen in trailers teaming up with Starlight to stop Project Odessa, a secret program first introduced in The Boys season 4.

Kripke emphasized that Gen V will maintain its own story while supporting the overarching narrative of The Boys. “Gen V should be primarily about the characters from Gen V and The Boys should be primarily about the characters from The Boys. While there can be crossovers and assists and help, it’s a little bit of a rug pull otherwise,” he said.

Sinclair said she loves playing an underdog who challenges the patriarchy. “I just like that she’s an underdog, and I like that she’s a Black woman, too. This super sexist, patriarchal bad guy. I would love to see him get his ass handed to him by a Black woman.”

Gen V season 2 looks set to strengthen the connection to The Boys while exploring its own characters. Marie’s journey as a potentially world-changing hero adds excitement for fans of both shows. How do you think Marie will change the course of the story? Share your thoughts in the comments.
