HBO is certainly having a triumphant week as the long-awaited third season of Euphoria made a record-breaking return to the screen. The premiere episode attracted 8.5 million viewers across HBO and HBO Max within its first three days, marking a massive 44% increase compared to the previous season’s debut in 2022.

Despite a four-year gap between installments, the audience’s loyalty remained unshaken as the core cast, including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi, reunited for a new chapter. The narrative has undergone a significant shift, jumping five years into the future to find the characters navigating the complexities of early adulthood.

Rue, played by Zendaya, has moved from high school struggles to a dangerous role working for a drug cartel in Mexico, while Nate has transitioned into running the family construction firm. The premiere also revealed Nate’s impending marriage to Cassie, whose storyline now involves a foray into adult content creation on OnlyFans.

The episode served as a poignant tribute to the series’ lost family members, specifically honoring actors Angus Cloud and Eric Dane, as well as executive producer Kevin Turen. Cloud, whose character Fezco is now incarcerated in the show’s storyline, passed away in 2023, while Eric Dane died earlier this year following a courageous battle with ALS.

A memorial card at the start of the episode and a dedicated “In Memoriam” during the credits acknowledged their lasting impact on the Euphoria legacy. While the return of the flagship series dominated headlines, the network also celebrated the success of the limited series DTF St. Louis, which recently aired its finale.

The show maintained an average of 6.5 million viewers per episode throughout its run, with the final chapter drawing 3.5 million viewers in its first few days of availability. This 40% growth from its series debut suggests that the network’s investment in new, diverse storytelling continues to resonate with a broad audience.

The breakout stars of the series have spent their time away from East Highland becoming some of the biggest names in the film industry. Zendaya is currently preparing for the massive debut of Dune: Part Three and recently starred in the movie The Drama.
