Eva Green Joins ‘Wednesday’ Season 3: Role Officially Revealed

Eva Green is officially joining Wednesday for its third season, playing a brand new member of the Addams family.

Last season, fans got a hint of Morticia Addams’ sister, Ophelia, who appeared only from the back in the final moments of Season 2. Now, we finally know who she is. Green, known for Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and Dark Shadows, will play Ophelia as a series regular, according to Variety.

Ophelia is a troubled character. She’s Morticia’s sister and has strong psychic powers, similar to her niece, Wednesday. Last season, she had been committed to Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital by her mother, Hester Frump, played by Joanna Lumley. She later escaped, and by the end of Season 2, Wednesday saw a vision of Ophelia through her aunt’s journal, which Morticia had given her.

The scene showed a woman with long blond hair and a flower crown, wearing a red dress and writing “Wednesday must die” in her own blood.

Long blond hair has always been Ophelia’s trademark, a sharp contrast to Morticia’s dark, gothic style. Back in the 1960s Addams Family TV series, Carolyn Jones played both sisters, using a blonde wig for Ophelia.

This casting is the first major addition for Season 3, which was greenlit by Netflix this past summer, even before Season 2 premiered. It also clears up fan speculation about Ophelia, including theories that Lady Gaga’s character from Season 2, Rosalyn Rottwood, might have been her.

Wednesday continues to follow Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega, as she solves mysteries with a supernatural twist at Nevermore Academy. Alongside Ortega, the cast includes Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, and Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, with Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, and others filling out the student and adult roles.

With Eva Green joining the mix, Season 3 promises more family drama, mystery, and dark humor. Fans can finally put a face to the mysterious Ophelia Frump and see how her story unfolds in the spooky world of the Addams family.
