There’s been a lot of buzz lately about Avengers: Secret Wars, and now fans are wondering if we might see the Wasp team up with Wolverine in the movie. It all started when Evangeline Lilly, who plays Hope van Dyne in the MCU, shared a sweet post about her time at Supanova Comic Con & Gaming.

In the post, she included a photo of herself standing next to someone dressed as Wolverine. The cosplay was solid, but what got fans talking was what happened in the comments.

One fan joked that the photo was her way of confirming she’d have scenes with Wolverine in Secret Wars. Lilly didn’t say yes or no, she just replied with a wink. That little tease was enough to send fans into speculation mode.

Right now, Marvel Studios has two huge Avengers movies coming up: Doomsday and Secret Wars. The cast for Doomsday seems mostly locked in, with some big names from Fox’s old X-Men movies returning, like Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Allan Cumming. As for Secret Wars, we still don’t know much. There are loud rumors that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will show up, which wouldn’t be shocking given the multiverse madness that’s expected.

Recent Data Shows ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ Was Profitable Despite Significant Box Office Losses

As of now, neither Hugh Jackman nor Evangeline Lilly are confirmed to appear in Doomsday. And with Lilly announcing her retirement from acting in June 2024, her chances of returning seem slim. In her post, she said, “I might return to Hollywood one day, but for now, this is where I belong,” referring to spending more time with her family.

Her last live-action role was in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which was supposed to kick off Phase 5 of the MCU with the introduction of a dangerous Kang variant.

But the movie didn’t do well at the box office, and many fans think it marked the beginning of the end for both Kang’s character and actor Jonathan Majors. The last time we even saw a reference to Hope van Dyne was in Daredevil: Born Again, where a billboard for her company appeared in a scene set in Times Square.

Back in July 2022, Marvel Studios officially announced Avengers: Secret Wars at San Diego Comic-Con. Michael Waldron was hired to write the script, but in July 2024, things shifted. The Russo brothers were brought on to direct and produce the film through their company AGBO. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who wrote Infinity War and Endgame, were also added as writers. One of the biggest surprises was the casting of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.

Filming is scheduled to begin in mid-2026 at Pinewood Studios in England and will take around six months. The movie is set to hit theaters on December 17, 2027. The cast of the Fantastic Four reboot is expected to return from Doomsday as well.

With all these changes and surprises, no one really knows what Secret Wars will look like. And while a Wasp and Wolverine team-up isn’t confirmed, fans will keep hoping, especially after that playful wink from Lilly.
