‘Event Horizon: Inferno’ Series Brings a Chilling Sequel to the Cult Classic Sci-Fi Flick
‘Event Horizon’ is getting a brand-new comic series that continues the story decades after the events of the 1997 cult classic film.
Collider reports that the sequel comic, titled Event Horizon: Inferno, is set to be released in 2026 and will explore what happens 200 years after the original spaceship horror.
The series is written by Christian Ward, who previously worked on the prequel comic Event Horizon: Dark Descent.
Speaking to Collider, Ward shared his excitement about continuing the story: “I always knew Event Horizon: Dark Descent was going to be a hit. Event Horizon fans are a passionate bunch that have been hungry for more for years… Even I’ve been taken aback by just how big of a hit Dark Descent has been and I’m thrilled now to be continuing the story of Event Horizon in Event Horizon: Inferno! First we told you the story about what happened before the events of the film and now… now we’re exploring what happened after the credits rolled.”
Ward also praised the new artist joining the project, Rob Carey, describing him as the perfect fit to bring the story to life. “If Dark Descent was Alien, then Inferno is our Aliens. Get ready for more sci-fi, more excitement, and especially more cosmic terror. There are more demons in hell, and we’re only just beginning,” he added.
For context, Event Horizon was a science fiction horror film directed by Paul Anderson, starring Sam Neill, Laurence Fishburne, and Kathleen Quinlan. Released in 1997, the movie followed a crew sent to rescue the spaceship Event Horizon, which mysteriously reappears after vanishing for seven years.
Although the film struggled at the box office, earning $42 million on a $60 million budget, it found a devoted audience on home video and has since been recognized as a cult classic with major influence on sci-fi horror.
There have been discussions over the years about expanding Event Horizon through prequels and sequels, including a potential television series. In 2019, Paramount Television and Amazon Studios announced a series with Adam Wingard attached as director and executive producer.
Wingard gave a brief update in March 2024, stating, “It’s definitely in the works… we have a f**** amazing script. Once this movie’s over, it’s just about refocusing my attention towards getting that set up.”
The upcoming comic series is a chance for fans to explore the terrifying world of Event Horizon while waiting for any future films or shows. Ward’s comments and the new storyline suggest a darker, more thrilling continuation, promising more demons, cosmic horror, and sci-fi suspense for readers.
