‘Wardriver’

The film follows Cole, a nocturnal hacker who cruises Salt Lake City looking for unsecured Wi-Fi networks that he uses to hack into bank and business accounts, a real-world technique called wardriving. Directed by Rebecca Thomas from a screenplay by Daniel Casey, the film stars Dane DeHaan alongside Sasha Calle, Mamoudou Athie, Jeffrey Donovan, William Belleau, Cameron Lee Price, and Karina Gale, and it holds a 100 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes despite a much cooler 57 percent audience score.
‘Extract’
Sitting at number two, ‘Extract’ is a much older comedy that has climbed back into relevance after logging over one hundred days on the chart. The film centers on Joel, the owner of a small flavor extract company whose life unravels after a freak workplace accident.
Written and directed by Mike Judge as a companion piece to Office Space, the film stars Jason Bateman, Mila Kunis, Kristen Wiig, and Ben Affleck, with support from J.K. Simmons, Clifton Collins Jr., and Dustin Milligan. Add to Joel’s on-the-job accident his bored wife, his laid-back best friend, and a sexy con artist, and his ordinary life quickly turns sour.
‘Vacation’
Landing at number three after climbing one spot, ‘Vacation’ revives the National Lampoon road trip formula for a new generation. Rusty Griswold is now working as a pilot for a low budget regional airline, living in suburban Chicago in a stale relationship with his wife Debbie and their two sons.
Paying homage to his father’s original vacation to Wally World, a now grown up Rusty takes his own family on a road trip to Walley World in order to spice things up with his wife and reconnect with his sons. Directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the film stars Ed Helms, Christina Applegate, Leslie Mann, and Chevy Chase, who reprises his role as the original Clark Griswold.
‘Good Boys’
Also climbing a spot to reach number four, ‘Good Boys’ remains a reliable comfort watch about three sixth graders and one very bad day. After being invited to his first kissing party, twelve year old Max is panicking because he doesn’t know how to kiss, and eager for pointers, he and his best friends Thor and Lucas decide to use Max’s father’s forbidden drone to spy on a teenage couple next door.
When the drone is destroyed, the boys skip school and set off on an odyssey of increasingly bad decisions. Written and directed by Gene Stupnitsky in his directorial debut, the film was produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and went on to gross over one hundred million dollars worldwide against a twenty million dollar budget.
‘Roofman’
Dropping two spots to number five, ‘Roofman’ is still one of Paramount+’s most durable titles, having spent close to two hundred days in the chart’s upper ranks. Directed by Derek Cianfrance, the film follows the real story of Jeffrey Manchester, a man who earned his nickname by breaking into fast food restaurants through their roofs.
After escaping prison, Manchester hid inside a Toys R Us and a neighboring Circuit City for six months, and it was there that he fell for a single mother named Leigh. The film hands Channing Tatum his most soulful role since Foxcatcher and pairs him with Kirsten Dunst, alongside a supporting cast that includes Peter Dinklage, LaKeith Stanfield, Ben Mendelsohn, Juno Temple, Melonie Diaz, Uzo Aduba, Lily Collias, and Jimmy O. Yang.
‘Top Gun: Maverick’
Holding steady at number six after 701 days on the chart, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ continues to prove itself as one of Paramount+’s most enduring titles. After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete Maverick Mitchell finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film stars Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, and Val Kilmer, and it grossed over 1.5 billion dollars worldwide against a budget of roughly 170 million dollars, making it one of the biggest box office successes in the studio’s history.
‘Scream 7’
Sitting at number seven with 52 days on the chart, ‘Scream 7’ brings Ghostface back into a franchise that had spent years without its original final girl. When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the town where Sidney Prescott has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter becomes the next target.
Directed by Kevin Williamson from a screenplay he wrote with Guy Busick, the film marks Neve Campbell’s return as Sidney alongside Courteney Cox and David Arquette, along with newcomer Isabel May as Sidney’s daughter Tatum. ‘The Contractor’
Just behind Wardriver at number eight with 90 days on the chart, ‘The Contractor’ follows a decorated soldier whose loyalty gets tested once he leaves the military. The film stars Chris Pine as an elite Special Forces Sergeant who is involuntarily discharged from the Army due to his use of illegal steroids taken to treat a debilitating knee injury.
In debt and desperate to provide for his family, Harper contracts with a private underground military force, and when his first assignment goes awry, he finds himself hunted and caught in a dangerous conspiracy. Directed by Tarik Saleh in his English language debut, the film also stars Ben Foster, Gillian Jacobs, Eddie Marsan, and Kiefer Sutherland, and it has drawn frequent comparisons to Alan Ritchson’s Reacher.
‘Carriers’
Rounding out the chart at number nine is ‘Carriers,’ a post-apocalyptic horror film that predates its star’s biggest fame. An infectious virus known as the World Ender Virus has spread worldwide, killing almost everyone, and two brothers along with their girlfriends are driving toward a secluded beach motel where they believe they can wait out the pandemic.
Written and directed by Àlex and David Pastor, the film stars Chris Pine, Lou Taylor Pucci, Piper Perabo, and Emily VanCamp, and it was filmed in 2006 before receiving a limited release in 2009 following Pine’s breakout in that year’s Star Trek reboot.
‘The Gambler’
Closing out the top 10 at number ten is ‘The Gambler,’ a remake that arrived on the chart just one day ago. Jim Bennett is an English professor and high stakes gambler who bets it all when he borrows from a gangster and offers his own life as collateral, pitting his creditor against the operator of a rival gambling ring while his relationship with a student deepens.
Directed by Rupert Wyatt from a screenplay by William Monahan, the film stars Mark Wahlberg alongside John Goodman, Brie Larson, Michael K. Williams, and Jessica Lange, and it marked the final film performance of George Kennedy before his death in 2016.
