Chris Hemsworth, an Australian actor and a wet dream for women and men around the world made his breakthrough in 2011 when he debuted as Thor in Marvel Cinematic Universe, and eleven years later, he’s still a part of the franchise. Although he’s most known for the role of God of Thunder, Hemsworth filmed many other popular movies; including Snow White and the Huntsman, Rush, 12 Strong, Bad Times at the El Royale, Men in Black: International, and Netflix 2020 hit — Extraction.

Written by Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo, Extraction is an action thriller that follows Tyler Rake (Hemsworth), a former SASR operator turned black-market mercenary as he is hired to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord. But in the underworld of weapons and drug dealers, the already deadly mission appears to be impossible.

At today’s Global Fan Event TUDUM, Netflix revealed the first look at the upcoming sequel:

“Chris Hemsworth returns as Tyler Rake in EXTRACTION 2, the sequel to Netflix’s blockbuster action film EXTRACTION. After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.” — Extraction 2, official synopsis

Extraction was released exclusively on Netflix in April 2020. Despite mixed to negative reviews, it was Netflix’s most successful movie at the time of its release (one of the movie’s advantages was that it was one of the few new movies that were released while theaters were closed back in 2020). The movie was watched by 99 million households in its first four weeks. And of course, with that huge success, Netflix didn’t waste any time announcing the sequel.

Directed by Sam Hargrave, Extraction 2 is set to be released on Netflix in 2023.
