This January, a new awesome fantasy show is coming to Hulu and Disney+, called Extraordinary. It will be an adventure comedy about a young girl living in a world where everyone has superpowers – but her. Already in the trailer, you could see some marvelous locations and urban scenery, so fans wonder, where was Extraordinary filmed?

Extraordinary was filmed in the City of London, and its metropolitan area, as stated on the show’s IMDb page and seen in the trailer. The production company behind the series is Sid Gentle Films, which is situated in London, so it makes sense that the show was filmed in the UK capital.

The show has a lot of promise, with a talented young cast and a storyline that’ll intrigue from the start. If you want to learn more about Extraordinary, its plot, and filming locations, you’re in the right place! Let’s dig in.

What is Extraordinary (2023) about?

Extraordinary is a cool, innovative fantasy story about a fictional world where everyone over the age of 18 got some superpower. Now it’s been ten years since it happened, and the only one who still doesn’t have a superpower is Jen. She is 25 now and really struggling with the fact that she seems to be the only person in the world without superpowers.

She’s willing to take anything. Any superpower, just not to feel so alone and left out anymore. Jen still has hope that her superpower will come, so she desperately clings to that hope and embarks on a journey with her flatmates to try and find her superpower – whatever it may be.

There are elements of action, adventure, science fiction, fantasy, and a whole lot of comedy in here, so Extraordinary will almost certainly be the right choice for you on a boring, lazy Sunday when you just want to relax and watch something amusing.

I love the twist in the story, too. Usually, it’s one person who has superpowers, and others are without any. In this case, it’s the other way around. Imagine a world where everybody has a superpower but you. I bet it will be super challenging for Jen but super fun for us as viewers.

The main cast members are Máiréad Tyers, who’ll portray Jen, and she’ll be joined by Siobhán McSweeney, Rebbie Gee, Sofia Oxenham, Bilal Hasna, and others.

Extraordinary (2023) filming locations

According to the show’s IMDb page, Extraordinary was shot entirely in London, UK. While we haven’t seen the show yet, since it’s only coming out now, you can recognize some of the landmarks that you can find in London already in the trailer.

For instance, you can see the lovely skyline of Liverpool Street, including The Bank of England, the Gherkin skyscraper, etc. There’s also a famous Liverpool Street train station located there, so I’m curious to see if it’ll be featured in the show.

I’ve also recognized Brick Lane, which is a well-known spot in East London between Shoreditch and the Whitechapel Gallery. It’s most famous for its lovely, busy marketplace, amazing local shops, curry houses, and much more.

Extraordinary (2023) Schedule: Episode Release Date & Time

Lastly, there are a few shots in the trailer that were certainly shot in Spitalfields, which is an area adjacent to Brick Lane (better said, Brick Lane is a part of Spitalfields). It’s famous for awesome street art, creativity, quirky shops, bars, restaurants, and a busy marketplace where you can find handmade crafts, from household decorations to fashion pieces.

It makes sense that Extraordinary was shot in London since the production company behind the show is Sid Gentle Films – the same company that produced the hit show Killing Eve. In October 2022, Sid Gentle Films was bought by BBC Studios but remained in London, where it keeps producing new projects.

Where to watch Extraordinary?

The entire first season of Extraordinary (2023) is coming out on January 25, 2023, on both Disney+ and Hulu, depending on your location. The show’s first season will have eight episodes, but it’s unclear if there will be a second season after that. It’ll likely depend on the show’s success when it premieres.
