Eyes of Wakanda has officially landed on Disney+, and Marvel fans are diving into the animated world of Wakanda once again. The new series, created by Todd Harris, tells the story of the Hatut Zaraze, elite Wakandan warriors who take on dangerous missions throughout history. It’s part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and keeps its place firmly in the franchise’s main “Sacred Timeline.”

The cast is stacked with talent, including Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Anika Noni Rose, Lynn Whitfield, and more. The animation comes from Axis Animation and has a hand-painted style influenced by African-American artists like Ernie Barnes, along with illustrator Dean Cornwell.

The series has been in the works for years. Disney and Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media struck a deal back in 2021, and by March 2023, the show was already in development. In December of that year, Marvel confirmed its title: Eyes of Wakanda. Harris was later announced as showrunner and director in 2024.

All four episodes dropped at once on August 1, 2025, making it the first series in Marvel’s Phase Six. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the show has earned a solid 89% rating from critics so far.

Most reviewers praise its visuals and action. The fight scenes are exciting, and the animation captures the spirit of Wakanda beautifully. Many say it’s a good watch while waiting for Black Panther 3.

The stories themselves are fairly thin, and hit similar thematic beats a lot from one episode to the next, but the action elevates the whole thing.

Beautifully rendered, the series isn’t as expansive as “Black Panther” lovers might expect, but it’s a decent holdover until “Black Panther 3” debuts.

Eyes of Wakanda feels a lot like Hulu’s Predator: Killer of Killers in the way it keeps things short and sweet. It makes for the kind of storytelling the studio probably wants to make more of now that it’s trying to prioritize quality over quantity.

Eyes of Wakanda is a well-made animated series created by talented individuals who genuinely care. The show looks great & is a captivating watch. While the stories were something I couldn’t completely connect to, I feel this is something many others will

With a distinct animation style that sets the series apart from other animated fare, Eyes of Wakanda is a welcome start to Phase 6 of the MCU.

On the flip side, not everyone is impressed. Some critics think the stories are too short and often repeat the same ideas from episode to episode. Others feel that the pacing leaves the storytelling rushed and underdeveloped.

There are some great moments scattered across these stories, but the miniseries falls short of its promise, largely because of limited time and rushed storytelling.

The Eyes of Wakanda can go watch themselves. You’ve probably got better things to see.

Still, there’s no doubt Eyes of Wakanda has been made with passion. As one review puts it, “It’s a well-made animated series created by talented individuals who genuinely care.”

Whether you watch it for the stunning visuals or as another piece of the Marvel puzzle, Eyes of Wakanda offers a new look at one of the MCU’s most beloved worlds.
