Ezra Miller Breaks Silence on His Hollywood Comeback: “I’m Really, Really Grateful for the Lessons That Came With That Abyss”

Ezra Miller is slowly making a comeback to Hollywood after facing serious accusations in 2022. These claims included harassment and grooming, which caused a lot of controversy and legal trouble for the actor.

Recently, Miller appeared publicly for the first time in two years at the Filming Italy Sardegna Festival in Cagliari, Italy. There, they gave an unusual interview where they talked about their return to the movie business and their future plans.

Their first step back was a brief visit to the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in May. At that event, Miller quickly ran past reporters without stopping for questions. They later explained that their main reason for being there was to support Lynne Ramsey, a close friend and director of the film We Need to Talk About Kevin from 2011.

Miller said, “I came to Cannes to support one of my closest friends in the world who is Lynne Ramsey — who I think is one of the greatest living filmmakers.” They also mentioned Ramsey is working on a new, untitled movie and that this project will probably be Miller’s first big role since stepping away from acting.

Miller admitted that jumping back into the spotlight at Cannes was difficult. “If you’ve been in the woods for three years, I do not recommend going straight to Cannes, where every photographer and every weirdo, every rich genocidal freak be there, you know what I mean?” they said.

In the interview, Miller reflected on the challenges they have faced in recent years. They spoke about surviving tough times and learning who truly stood by them. “When we go through those crucibles, if we can survive — which was up in the air for me, if I’m being real — we then have that capacity to see other people in their crucibles and just to reach towards them,” they said. Miller also talked about how people often focus too much on how others see them and stressed the importance of genuine friendship.

Miller was clear about their loyalty to those who supported them but was also critical of others in Hollywood who did not care about their well-being. “When you work in this industry, you’ll find yourself in deep, deep relation with a lot of people who do not give a single f— about you, or your well-being, at all,” they said.

They added, “Not that I don’t hold a lot of remorse and lamentation for a lot of things that I did and a lot of things that happened in that time, but I’m really, really grateful for the lessons that came with that abyss.”
