‘Fall 2: Deadpoint’s’ Rotten Tomatoes Score Has Horror Fans Split Right Before Opening Weekend
Heights have always made for cheap thrills at the movies, but few franchises have leaned into vertigo quite like Lionsgate’s survival series. The original ‘Fall’ became a surprise hit for the studio back in 2022, eventually building a cult following after it took off on Netflix. That success is exactly why a sequel was inevitable, and now the follow up has finally landed in theaters.
‘Fall 2, Deadpoint’ is a 2026 American survival thriller directed by Peter and Michael Spierig, working from a screenplay by Scott Mann and Jonathan Frank. The story follows Jax Hunter, played by Harriet Slater, who is still mourning the death of her sister Shiloh from the first film and bonds with Shiloh’s fearless friend Luce, played by Arsema Thomas, as the two travel to Thailand to attempt the infamous plank walk on Mount Kwan. A sudden rockslide leaves them trapped on a fragile wooden platform roughly 3,000 feet in the air, turning their trip into a fight for survival. Tom Brittney also joins the cast for the sequel.
That brings us to the number everyone is currently talking about. A Rotten Tomatoes score card making the rounds online shows ‘Fall 2, Deadpoint’ sitting at 55 percent on the Tomatometer, based on just 11 reviews, with the Popcornmeter still too early to register a score. It is a modest showing for a franchise that built its reputation on delivering pure adrenaline, and it has already sparked debate among fans wondering whether the sequel can match the original’s word of mouth.
Critics themselves seem genuinely split on the film, even if most agree on what works. Variety’s Todd Gilchrist wrote that the movie successfully replicates the vertiginous tension of the first film without feeling like a carbon copy, a sentiment that suggests the sequel found its footing even while trying something new. Over at The Guardian, Benjamin Lee praised the film’s edge of the seat moments and noted that the original formula works just the way it should in the movie’s most nauseating sequences.
Other outlets picked up on the franchise leaning harder into melodrama this time around. Slashfilm’s Bill Bria pointed out that the sequel stands on its own with wilder stakes, double the twists, and an eye toward turning the series into a soap opera set at extreme heights. Awards Radar’s Jonathan Sim summed up the appeal bluntly, joking that anyone with a fear of heights might want to look away, then again that is probably exactly why audiences are watching in the first place.
The film’s road to theaters was not entirely smooth either. ‘Fall 2, Deadpoint’ was originally scheduled for an August 7 release before shifting to September 2, and it ultimately landed a PG-13 rating for strong language, violent content, bloody images, and drug material. Despite the mixed early notices, Lionsgate has already confirmed a third entry in the franchise, expected to bring back characters from both previous films, proving the studio is betting on ‘Fall’ becoming a long term theatrical staple rather than a one off hit.
With critics divided and the Tomatometer sitting right in the middle, ‘Fall 2, Deadpoint’ is shaping up to be one of those movies audiences will need to judge for themselves.
