A new report from industry insider eXtas1s suggests that Fallout 5 may still be a long way off.

Fans of the post-apocalyptic RPG series have been waiting for a decade since Fallout 4 launched, and it seems the wait could extend well into the next console generation.

According to eXtas1s, Bethesda Game Studios and Xbox are focused on releasing The Elder Scrolls 6, which is reportedly scheduled for 2027.

Since production on Elder Scrolls 6 only started after Starfield shipped in 2023, it’s expected to take roughly four years to complete. “If The Elder Scrolls 6 releases in 2027, Fallout 5 likely won’t start development until then,” eXtas1s explained.

If Fallout 5 follows the same development timeline, it could arrive around 2031. This means fans might be looking at at least six more years before stepping back into the wasteland. Bethesda has never worked on two major projects simultaneously, and there’s no indication that this approach has changed.

This news may be disappointing for long-time Fallout fans, but it also highlights Bethesda’s careful approach to building its next big worlds. Developing a high-quality AAA game takes time, and the gap between Fallout 4 and Fallout 5 could be explained by the studio’s focus on other major projects.

While the wait is long, I think it might be worth it if Bethesda takes the time to deliver a polished and engaging Fallout 5. What do you think? Are you willing to wait until the 2030s for the next Fallout game? Share your thoughts in the comments.
