Wanda Maximoff remains one of the most significant figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but her current status is famously unclear.

While many fans watched her seemingly perish beneath the falling rocks of Mount Wundagore, few believe that a character with the ability to warp reality could be ended by mere debris. Following the magical revelations of the 2024 series Agatha All Along, the demand for her return has reached a fever pitch.

Fresh reports from industry insider Daniel Richtman suggest that Marvel Studios is moving forward with a solo film project centered on the Scarlet Witch. This new chapter is expected to lean into the upcoming Mutant Saga, which aligns with her complex comic book history.

The timing is particularly relevant given that her son, Wiccan, has already made his debut and a solo series for White Vision is currently in production for 2026.

Elizabeth Olsen, the actress behind the character, has recently expressed her own desire to step back into the role. During a wide-ranging conversation at the 2025 Hamptons International Film Festival, she shared her deep affection for the character she has played for over a decade.

It is something that I love, and it’s something I always want to return to, Olsen told the audience at the Sag Harbor Cinema. I think the thing that’s been so special about the last five years is I’ve gotten to do so much with the character that I never thought I would. There are still character through lines that have happened in the comics that I’d love to do that I think fans also want to.

Since her first appearance in 2015, Olsen has taken Wanda on a journey from an Avengers recruit to a grief-stricken antagonist in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Despite the character’s dark turn, Olsen remains defensive of Wanda’s emotional complexity. She also addressed the idea of superhero fatigue, noting that while the culture might feel a bit crowded with these stories, the experience of making them is unique.

Some people have ongoing television series that they get to return to. Very few, I feel like, get to be a part of franchises that, I know we might culturally get a little bit exhausted by, but there is something about them that becomes very familial, she explained to the crowd.

There’s nothing else really like it, and I don’t know that I’ll have that again unless it’s for an ongoing show. I do like that kind of consistency. It feels good. I mean, job security feels nice — I think we can all agree on that.

The actress admitted that joining such a massive franchise was originally a scary prospect, but she now looks back on the work with immense pride. She noted that the stories have only improved as her character became more central to the overarching plot. It’s really fruitful, and the stories have only gotten better for me, my character. I really enjoyed it, she added during the festival event.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has also been vocal about his hope for Wanda’s future. In several interviews throughout late 2024 and 2025, he hinted that there are many core storylines from the comics that have yet to be explored on screen. With rumors of a 2026 or 2027 solo film circulating, it seems the “death” of the Scarlet Witch was merely a temporary setback.

Outside of the Marvel world, Elizabeth Olsen has been focusing on challenging indie roles and her work as a producer. She recently starred in the A24 film Eternity and the drama His Three Daughters, earning critical praise for her range. However, her willingness to return to the MCU suggests that the “familial” bond of the franchise is a pull she isn’t ready to ignore just yet.
