Fan-Favorite Museum Franchise Comes Alive Again With a Brand-New Movie in the Works
The museum lights are turning back on, and it looks like another magical night is on the way. A new movie in the Night at the Museum universe is officially being developed by 20th Century Studios and 21 Laps Entertainment. According to reports from Variety, writer Tripper Clancy has been brought in to work on the script.
This upcoming film isn’t a sequel or reboot. It’s said to be a fresh take with brand-new characters and a new story, though exact plot details are still being kept secret for now. Shawn Levy, who directed the original trilogy, is producing the project alongside Dan Levine. Emily Morris is overseeing the film for 21 Laps.
Tripper Clancy has worked on other projects like Stuber, I Am Not Okay With This, and the Die Hart series. His mix of comedy and action seems to make him a good fit for the fun, fast-paced tone fans expect from this series.
The Night at the Museum franchise began back in 2006 with Ben Stiller starring as Larry Daley, a night guard who discovers that the exhibits in the museum come to life after dark. That first movie became a hit and led to two more live-action films in 2009 and 2014, plus an animated follow-up in 2022.
The earlier movies included a star-studded cast with Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Rami Malek, and many others. The animated film introduced a new group of voice actors, including Joshua Bassett and Zachary Levi.
Back in 2022, Thomas Lennon, who co-wrote the first film, hinted at the idea of continuing the franchise with another live-action movie. He said, “The animated film opens up a lot of new possibilities.” He also shared that he’d love to bring Ben Stiller back for another round.
Now, it looks like those possibilities are starting to come to life. A new chapter is on the way, and while we don’t know what surprises the museum has in store this time, it’s clear that the magic isn’t over just yet.
