Interview with the Vampire is back in the spotlight as one of two Anne Rice shows currently streaming on Netflix in the United States, and fans have a reason to celebrate: the second season is coming very soon, on September 30.

Netflix first added the series in August 2024 as part of a big licensing deal with AMC, but only for one year and only for the first season. Many people assumed the show would leave after that, especially since other AMC shows from the same deal have already departed.

However, recent reports confirm that Interview with the Vampire has been extended on Netflix until September 30th, 2026. This means fans have plenty of time to catch up before the third season arrives.

The series, developed by Rolin Jones for AMC, is based on Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles and takes its name from the first book. It stars Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac and Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt.

The story follows Louis as he recalls his past and the complicated relationship he has with Lestat. The show stays true to Rice’s gothic horror roots while also embracing the queer themes that were only hinted at in the 1994 film adaptation. It also tackles issues like race and abuse, making it a rich, layered experience for viewers.

Interview with the Vampire is the first series set in what’s being called the Immortal Universe, a shared world based on Anne Rice’s novels. AMC purchased the rights to 18 of Rice’s books in 2020, and the series order was officially made in June 2021. The first season premiered on October 2, 2022, and the first two seasons cover events from the original novel.

The show was renewed for a third season in June 2024 and is expected to return in 2026 under the title The Vampire Lestat, adapting the second book in Rice’s series.

The series has been widely praised by critics and audiences alike. Its writing, costumes, soundtrack, production design, and lead performances have all received acclaim. Reviewers have especially highlighted the chemistry between Anderson and Reid. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds an approval rating of 99 percent, while Metacritic gives it a weighted score of 83 out of 100. IndieWire even named Interview with the Vampire one of the most essential LGBTQ TV shows of the 21st century.

With the extension on Netflix and the third season on the horizon, the series continues to draw new fans while keeping longtime Anne Rice readers excited. Its mix of gothic drama, complex characters, and faithful adaptation of Rice’s novels ensures that Interview with the Vampire remains a standout show in today’s TV landscape.
