Fans Celebrate as Sif Is Cast in Amazon’s ‘God of War’ Series

Teresa Palmer has joined the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming live-action adaptation of God of War, Variety has reported. Palmer will play Sif, the Norse goddess and wife of Thor. Ryan Hurst, who was previously announced to star as Kratos, voiced Thor in the game God of War: Ragnarok.

Palmer is best known for her work in films like Hacksaw Ridge, The Fall Guy, I Am Number Four, and Knight of Cups. She has also appeared on TV in shows such as A Discovery of Witches, The Clearing, and Mix Tape. Her next project is the Australian series The Family Next Door.

The series will continue the story from the two most recent God of War games. It follows Kratos and his ten-year-old son Atreus as they go on a journey to scatter the ashes of Faye, Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother.

According to the series’ logline, “Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.”

The project has had a long road to production. Amazon greenlit the series in 2022. The original showrunner, Rafe Judkins, left the project in October 2024. Ronald D. Moore later joined as the new showrunner and will serve as writer and executive producer through his Tall Ship Productions banner. Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes. The show is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, PlayStation Productions, and Tall Ship Productions.

God of War began as a video game franchise in 2005, created by David Jaffe and developed by Santa Monica Studio for PlayStation. The games originally focused on Greek mythology, following Kratos’ revenge against the Olympian gods.

Later entries shifted to Norse mythology, exploring Kratos’ path to redemption and his relationship with his son Atreus. The series has sold over 66 million copies worldwide and is one of PlayStation’s most profitable first-party franchises. It has also expanded into novels, comics, and merchandise.

Teresa Palmer joining the God of War series as Sif adds a key character from Norse mythology that fans have been eager to see. The show has the chance to bring the games’ rich story and characters to a new audience. With Kratos and Atreus’ story at the center, Palmer’s Sif could make the series even more compelling.
