Fans in Shock as Two Hit Shows Are Suddenly Canceled – Here’s What Went Wrong
Fans of two popular shows were left disappointed as recent cancellations were confirmed for both Prime Video and Peacock.
Amazon MGM Studios quietly decided not to continue Leverage: Redemption with a fourth season, TV Insider reported on December 12, 2025. The announcement came roughly six months after the third season ended on Prime Video. No official reason for the cancellation has been shared.
Leverage: Redemption first premiered in 2021 as a sequel to TNT’s Leverage, which originally aired from 2008 to 2012. Many of the original stars returned, including Gina Bellman, Christian Kane, and Beth Riesgraf.
Aldis Hodge made special appearances, while Noah Wyle and Aleyse Shannon joined the cast. The show followed the original crew, grifter Sophie Devereaux, thief Parker, hitter Eliot Spencer, and hacker Alec Hardison, as they navigated a world where the powerful could take advantage of anyone. Over the eight years since their last mission, the team had to adjust to new challenges.
Season 3 introduced new characters, including Harry Wilson, a lawyer seeking redemption, and Breanna Casey, Hardison’s foster sister skilled in computers and robotics. Showrunner John Rogers told TV Insider that Season 4 would have explored the impact of AI technology and environmental damage caused by industrial projects. Fans could also have expected appearances from returning characters and deeper backstory for the main cast. Rogers noted that while Season 3 didn’t end on a cliffhanger, there was still plenty of story left to tell.
Meanwhile, another highly anticipated project was canceled at Peacock. A sequel series to Leigh Whannell’s 2018 sci-fi thriller Upgrade was officially scrapped, according to producer Tim Walsh. The original plan, first announced by Deadline in 2020, was to continue the story of a man who gained advanced abilities after a chip was implanted in his body following a mugging. The series would have expanded the world of STEM technology and its use in law enforcement.
Whannell had planned to direct the show but later expressed that he preferred the original film to remain a cult classic. Walsh explained to Bloody Disgusting that the project was delayed and ultimately canceled due to the pandemic.
He said, “I think I started my writer’s room for Upgrade on the day the world shut down from the pandemic. We had the writer’s room. We wrote the scripts. But, as often happens in this business, somebody up top at Peacock got fired, and a new person came in, thought they knew everything, and dropped that project. It never got picked up later because it was a tumultuous time in the world.”
With Whannell not interested in revisiting Upgrade, and the Peacock project shelved, fans are unlikely to see the sequel come to life. In both cases, the cancellations highlight how unpredictable the entertainment industry can be, especially when external events like the pandemic disrupt production and corporate decisions.
